It is the most natural thing in the world to expect that we should buy our kids’ face masks at Target. This is, after all, the time of year when we are used to feeling that cool blast of air and seeing the friendly red signage welcoming us into a vast suburban Target store for back-to-school shopping. Even if many of us aren’t quite yearning to step foot in their physical stores, we are happy to report that the retailer has stepped up their online offerings in the face mask department.
The question is, which Target kids face masks are right for your children? This is a crucial decision for back-to-school shopping season, as it’s just about the most noticeable accessory we can imagine until there’s some reason to require kids wear 10-gallon hats adorned with peacock feathers to school. (That is the pandemic we deserve next!)
If you’ve got a younger child, your choice might be on the easy side in terms of decoration: Do they want Paw Patrol or Trolls? L.O.L. Surprise! Dolls, JoJo Siwa, or Batman? Kids who aren’t so into those characters can also choose from some cute shark and flower prints from Cat & Jack kids face mask packs at Target. Printing a favorite character on these masks is such a good move to entice those who were initially put off by the blank looks on everyone’s masked faces. We can’t smile or frown at each other, but we can absolutely unicorn or Superman at them.
For the older or more sophisticated children out there, there are slightly less cutesy prints too. Select a Target kids face mask in a solid color to stand out less, or make a statement with plaid or tie-dye. Better yet, these masks are so inexpensive, you can pick up all of the above. After all, experts say you should be washing reusable masks after every use.
Speaking of experts, you may also be wondering about whether to choose masks that use filters. The official word is that they’re not necessary, but if you are looking for extra protection a few of the varieties of mask packs at Target do have filter pockets. Target isn’t selling filters yet, so you can use the old coffee filter trick instead.
Finally, if you’ve got a kid who loses things that aren’t glued to them, you anticipate being in a particularly icky environment (well, please don’t), or you really hate laundry, you can also opt for the super-cute disposable kids face masks Target sells. We’re kind of excited for September, when they’ll start selling them with Barbie and other licensed characters.

Time to start shopping for your kids’ new favorite Target kids face masks now!
Paw Patrol Masks
How have these canine first responders been doing in during this pandemic? They have, at least, been inspiring kids to don their masks, because that’s one way of selflessly coming to the rescue of everyone around them. These are also two-layered contoured masks of polyester blend and cotton lining.
Trolls Masks
Remember that prehistoric time when Trolls World Tour was released directly to streaming, and we thought that was a weird thing about the pandemic? Memorialize our ever-changing culture, or just, you know, please your little Trolls fans, with this cotton and polyester mask.
L.O.L. Surprise! Masks
The more your kid feels like their mask is special to them, the more likely they are to wear it. That makes this three-pack an obvious choice for L.O.L. doll fans. They feature an inner layer of cotton and an outer layer of polyester (and fabulousness!).
Batman Masks
Comic-book heroes were into masks way before it was cool. These classic masked Batman images decorate a contoured mask that’s one layer poly-blend and one layer cotton.
Superman Masks
All Superman had to do was put on a pair of glasses and a suit to keep his identity safe. Without otherworldly superpowers, we will trust in science and these two-layered masks instead.
JoJo Siwa Masks
The relentlessly energetic YouTube star has lent a bit of her colorful unicorns-and-cupcakes energy to these masks, and we are here for it. The contoured masks are made with one layer of poly-blend and a lining layer of 100 percent cotton.
Cat & Jack Face Masks
The signature Target kids clothing brand makes these very affordable, two-layer, 100 percent cotton masks. They’ve got a built-in nose wire for a better fit, as well as a pocket for an optional filter. They come in a variety of prints and solid colors, for your choosy kids, but are one-size-fits-all for ages 3 and up.
Cat & Jack Shark Face Masks
Just in case you thought these only came in solids, stripes and plaids, we had to share these shark masks with you. Some kids need the extra protection of a deadly creature between them and the world, you know.
Cat & Jack Floral Face Masks
There are also versions of the Cat & Jack masks in flowers, hearts, polka dots, and rainbows. Because also some kids could use that extra boost to their day.
Plain Face Masks
For a more subdued look, your kid may prefer one of these, which come in blue, black, and pink. These have two layers of cotton, with a pocket for filters, and are sized to fit older kids.
Just Play Disposable Masks
It’s not the environmentally friendly move, but it may be most practical for you to put your child in a disposable mask, in which case, we highly recommend these that come in large and small children’s sizes. Right now, you can buy versions with monsters and emojis (small), or tie-dye and camo (large). But coming in September, Just Play will also release licensed versions featuring Barbie, Hot Wheels, Harry Potter, Paw Patrol, and more.
