Many children use social media but how many are bonafide internet stars? Very few.
Thanks to their celebrity parents, some kids are finding their footing on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, amassing millions of followers with cute photos and videos (bonus points if mom and dad make an appearance), enviable vacations, or even business ventures. For example, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s four-year-old daughter Olympia’s favorite doll Qai Qai has her own Instagram account.
But these famous kids aren’t creating their own social media footprints — some of them were internet famous since the day they were born, via viral baby announcements and first photos. And because most of these children are under the age of 13 (the minimum age that kids are allowed to join platforms), their accounts are strictly run by their proud parents. That is, with the exception of Alabama Barker, the 16-year-old daughter of former beauty queen Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker (he is now engaged to Kourtney Kardashian) who became an online icon long ago, due to her singing talents and glam shots.
But should kids use or be featured on social media? In October 2021, a study published in Computers in Human Behavior found that using platforms like Snapchat and Instagram before the age of 11 “was significantly associated with problematic digital behavior outcomes” such as online harassment, when compared to slightly older kids who join those platforms, although younger kids were also more “supportive or civically-engaged.” And there’s so much debate on whether parents should post online content about their kids before they’re old enough to consent.
That said, celebrities often have no choice in whether their children’s lives can remain private so a kid-focused social media account could be one way to control the narrative in a very publicized existence.
So check out these young social media stars and give them a follow!
Olympia Ohanian
Olympia Ohanian, the 4-year-old daughter of tennis star Serena Williams and Reddit co-founded Alexis Ohanian, has her own Instagram account where her parents post about her adventures. Olympia’s 631K followers can enjoy the little girl’s daily antics which range from time on the tennis court with mom, beach getaways, and even moments with her favorite doll Qai Qai.
Alabama Barker
Alabama Barker (pictured with her dad Travis Barker and her brother Landon Barker) is a legit social media star, blessing her one million Instagram followers with her music videos (she sings too!) and fun party pics. And in 2021, when the Blink-182 drummer got engaged to Kourtney Kardashian, we got to see more of Alabama’s blended family life in photos. As the future stepdaughter of a Kardashian, can we expect anything less?
North West
As the eldest Kardashian-West child, North, 8, is carrying out her family’s legacy with the November 2021 launch of her TikTok account Kim and North (yes, North gets help from her mom Kim Kardashian). The space is a tribute to their mother-daughter bond through makeup tutorials, social media challenges, and one live house tour, courtesy of North, to Kardashian’s horror. And their 5.1M fans love every minute of it.
Aside from North, Kardashian and her estranged husband Kanye West (Kardashian filed for divorce in 2021) share son Saint, 6, daughter Chicago, 4, and son Psalm, 2.
Kaavia Union Wade
Kaavia Union Wade, the daughter of actress Gabrielle Union and former NBA star Dwyane Wade, is the star of her own Instagram account where 1.8 million fans follow her tiny footprints. Followers can see Kaavia, who her parents have nicknamed “The Shady Baby,” on the basketball court, getting her hair done, and showing off her beautiful dresses.
Kenzo Hart
At age 4, Kenzo Hart has more Instagram followers — 71.4K — than the average person will acquire in a lifetime. The son of actor Kevin Hart and Eniko Hart is the star of “Kenzo’s World,” where his mom posts photos of his Spider-Man birthday party, his favorite songs, and mommy-and-me moments that make our hearts melt.
Chanel Nicole
As the daughter of rapper Ice T and model Coco Austin, Chanel Nicole seems destined for the spotlight. The 6-year-old’s Instagram account Baby Chanel Nicole has more than 450K followers and honors the little girl’s milestones like losing her teeth, playing the piano, and bonding with her dad.
Penelope Disick
Penelope Disick was born into social media royalty — her mom is Kourtney Kardashian and her dad is Scott Disick — so the 9-year-old’s 2021 TikTok debut should surprise no one. Penelope and her mom run the account P and Kourt and together they lip sync, goof around with Penelope’s future stepfather Travis Barker, and hang with Penelope’s cousin North West.
Asahd Tuck Khaled
Asahd Tuck Khaled (pictured here in 2017) is the 5-year-old son of DJ Khaled and Nicole Tuck and his every move is documented on his Instagram account which has 1.6M followers. Whether he’s driving a toy car at Legoland or modeling his dad’s Dolce & Gabbana clothing collaboration, this little dude has it good!
Kulture Kiari
Kulture, the 3-year-old daughter of rappers Cardi B and Offset, was given her own Instagram account when she was only two, collecting 700K followers in a matter of days. Today, her follower count is 2.3 million! In 2020, while encouraging fans to follow her daughter, Cardi B wrote on Instagram, “…soo much cool bute baby stuff coming up.” And we’re not disappointed.
