For some reason, an alarmingly large sector of society believes that once a woman becomes a mother, she should not be sexual in any capacity. If anyone ever doubted the weird phenomenon in which society feels uncomfortable when a woman is in charge of her body and sexuality while raising children, the social media accounts of many famous mothers are a hotbed full of people who fiercely clutch such outdated ideas to their chest — while attempting to force them on everyone else.
Take Jenna Dewan, for example. In 2017, the Step Up actress shared a photo of her backside on Instagram, revealing her buns peeping out of a sexy black teddy suit. People were quick to jump down her virtual throat, literally writing, “You have a kid, shame on you,” and questioning if her then-husband Channing Tatum would approve of her sharing such content — excuse us while we projectile vomit in the name of the patriarchy.
Kim Kardashian is also a frequent recipient of such criticism. After posting a nude photo and subsequently being shamed for “setting a bad example” for her kids, the SKIMS founder wrote an open letter on her website to address the internet’s unnecessary concerns. “I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality,” she stated. “You be you and let me be me. I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy.” A-freaking-men.

Britney Spears refuses to be shamed by anyone for showing off her body and owning her sexuality — including her own sons.
After her conservatorship was terminated, the “Stronger” singer reclaimed her freedom and bodily autonomy by frequently sharing nude photos on social media. When her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, publicly claimed their kids Jayden and Sean were avoiding their mom because of her posts, Spears took to her Instagram Story to stand up for herself.
Of her photos, the celebrated singer wrote, “Other artists have made much worse when their children were extremely young!!!!” Spears continued, “During my conservatorship I was controlled and monitored for nearly 15 years…I needed permission just to take Tylenol!!! I should embark on doing WAAAY more than going topless on the beach like a baby.”
Keke Palmer
In a shocking turn of events, Keke Palmer was publicly mom-shamed for wearing a sexy outfit… by her own boyfriend. The Nope actress attended a performance by Usher in Las Vegas, and a video of her and the singer went viral on Twitter.
In response to the clip and her stunning outfit, which included a sheer mesh dress overtop a black bodysuit, the father of her child, Darius Jackson, tweeted, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.”
After he was met with heavy criticism from Palmer’s fans, Jackson doubled down on his misogynistic stance with a second ignorant tweet. “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is,” the 29-year-old wrote. “This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”
The internet read the riot act to Jackson so thoroughly that he deleted his Twitter account, and while Palmer didn’t directly address his gross comments toward her, she did throw subtle shade his way on Instagram and unfollowed him on the platform.
Sharing a carousel of photos showing off her stunning ensemble after Jackson fired off his garbage take, Palmer wrote, “I wish I had taken more pictures but we were running late!”
The pics included one of the actress pursing her lips in a kiss and another of her popping her hip with her hands on her knees to show off her voluptuous curves. As subtle as it was, the message aimed at Jackson was loud and clear — a class act by a strong and sexy mama.
Mindy Kaling
In a May 2023 interview with People about her swimwear collaboration with Andie Swim, Mindy Kaling said her status as a mom of two isn’t keeping her from wearing “young and carefree” swimsuits.
“It’s not like you become a mom and you give up on looking cute and sexy and all you want to wear is a modest navy bathing suit,” the Ocean’s Eight actress asserted. She added, “I don’t need to have a skirted bathing suit.”
Chrissy Teigen
In December 2019, Chrissy Teigen posted a photo of herself and daughter Luna on Instagram. The former swimsuit model wore a blazer that revealed her thighs and some cleavage, and while many of her followers were living for the hot mom vibes, a boatload of internet trolls were decidedly… not.
One comment under the post read, “Do you ever wear underwear?” Teigen, like the legend she is, responded, “U cold up there?”
Another user wrote, “Jesus cover up your daughter right there,” and Teigen straightened her Comeback Queen crown to reply, “[Luna] sucked it for months and doesn’t mind it much.”
Kim Kardashian
After posting a nude photo on Instagram in 2016, Kim Kardashian was shamed for supposedly setting a bad example for her kids. In response, the SKIMS founder wrote an open letter on her website. “It’s 2016. The body-shaming and slut-shaming—it’s like, enough is enough,” she asserted.
Kardashian continued, “I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality. You be you and let me be me. I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy.”
Directly addressing the example she’s setting for her daughters in particular, the mom of four wrote, “I want [North] to be proud of who she is. I want her to be comfortable in her body. I don’t want her to grow up in a world where she is made to feel less-than for embracing everything it means to be a woman.” We truly couldn’t have said it better!
Jenna Dewan
Jenna Dewan shared a cheeky photo of herself with her buns out in 2017, and as they always seem to do, the internet police came running to assail the actress.
The nasty comments ran the gamut, from “You have a kid … Shame on you” and “She’s a mother and married. SMH, disappointed at Jenna” to “You look slutty, just saying” and “Unfollowing. She’s a mother. No need for these posts.”
In response, Dewan shared an image of a quote that read, “You can tell who the strong women are. They are the ones you see building up one another instead of tearing each other down.” The mom of two pointedly captioned the post, “To all the strong women out there. May we be them, may we know them, may we raise them. Rise above judgment and step into love.”
Jessie James Decker
Jessie James Decker is known to playfully tease about her sex life with husband Eric Decker , and when she did just that in 2020, the slut-shamers attempted to cast her down.
Sharing a photo of herself standing in a bathtub, completely covered in bubbles, the country musician wrote, “Hey babe, come to the bath tub. I’m nekkid and wanna show u somethin 😂😂😂😂 (if he thought he was walking into a seductive bathtub show he was right).”
She added, “People frequently ask how we keep the spark and spice alive. This is it right here folks 😂.” One person commented, “TMI 🤮,” and Decker wrote back, “I can’t imagine what’s on your computer history, hopefully nothing as risqué and repulsive as my bubble bath gown.”
The “Lights Down Low” singer is no stranger to being shamed by the internet for her sexuality. Earlier that year, she shared a photo of herself in a t-shirt and underwear with one of her sons in the background.
A commenter suggested it was wrong for her to be “walk(ing) around like that with [her] kids around,” and the musician replied, “No different than a swim suit. I teach my children the body is beautiful. Nothing to be ashamed of.” Amen to that.

Amber Rose has been one of the most heavily targeted celebrity moms when it comes to slut-shaming, and after being the subject of tweets like “isn’t amber rose a mom? why she acting like a crazy slut” and “Amber Rose bad but she’s a mom imagine being [her son] in a couple years and seeing the pics she posts smh,” she decided to clap back.
Tweeting a photo of herself wearing a sexy black lingerie set, Rose wrote, “”U Guys Love Slut Shaming Huh? Good. I feed off that sh*t. #HowtobeAbadB*tch.” Simply iconic behavior.
Kristin Cavallari
In 2022, Kristin Cavallari nervously shared a photo of herself in a bikini from behind. She captioned the post, “I’ve been sitting on this picture for a few days going back and forth on if I should post it or not. Ultimately I decided to bc I’ve come a long way from a few years ago and I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made.”
The Laguna Beach alum continued, “I work out really hard and am dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and I think just because I’m a mom doesn’t mean I can’t be proud of my body and be comfortable in my skin.” We couldn’t agree more.
Daphne Oz
During a 2017 conversation with the Daily Mail about how often she receives backlash for sharing bikini photos, Daphne Oz said, “I think it is very important for moms to be able to feel sexy.”
The cookbook author explained, “Every once in a while I put up a picture of me in a bikini, and every once in a while someone will write back and [say], ‘My kids look at this!’ And I am like, ‘Dude, I am in a bikini. My child is in the picture. This is not pornography. What’s wrong with you?'”

Like Chrissy Teigen and Amber Rose, Coco Austin seems to be the target of mom-shaming more than most celeb mamas — especially when it comes to her body and what she wears.
After sharing some photos of herself and her daughter in matching mommy & me swimsuits, one Instagram user wrote, “I love seeing this cute little baby. But why do I always have to see her mom’s ass and t—ties too?”
Austin replied, explaining, “People always ask to see what the back of the bottoms look like. I post this to help boutiques that send packages to me. They always want to see a frontal and back.”
During a November 2022 appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, the TV personality opened up about being harrassed about her sexuality. She said, “I think people thought, being Coco, I was gonna have a child and start dressing different [and] acting different, but it’s like, I’m still myself but a motherly self.” Austin added, “I can still have my sexiness and still be a mother. I don’t have to shut that down … This is the way I feel good.”
