Surprise! Robert De Niro just welcomed a new baby — at 79 years old! The Oscar-winning actor casually dropped this major news in an interview with ET Canadayesterday, and we are amazed.
When the interviewer mentioned De Niro’s six kids, he corrected her by saying, “Seven, actually.” Then he clarified briefly: “I just had a baby.” That’s it! No details on the sex or name of the baby (or who the baby’s mom is). It’s like he just wanted to set the record straight and move on, and we are picking our jaws up off the floor. Whoever the little one is, they have a 51-year age gap with their eldest sibling, Drena De Niro! (BTW, we’re officially retiring the how-far-apart-is-too-far-apart conversation around family planning now.)

At the red carpet for De Niro’s latest role About My Father on May 6, the actor revealed that he “just had a baby.” He also opened up about parenting to ET Canada, explaining that he sometimes has “to be stern about stuff.”
“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he told the outlet. “And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”
The Godfather star then explained that he doesn’t see himself as a “cool dad.”
“I’m okay,” De Niro said. “You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful. My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is.”
