Everyone jokes about the lives of nepotism babies, but being a son or daughter of a famous person (or two!) comes with its downsides, too. Jennifer Lopez opened up about the way she wishes she could “protect” her kids, 15-year-old twins Emme and Max, who she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, from being judged for having famous parents, and our hearts go out to her.
In an interview with Audacy to promote her new movie, The Mother, J. Lo revealed that she wishes she could protect her kids from “everything. There’s so many things.” Don’t we all?!
“I think being the child of famous parents is not something many people can understand, and I feel for [my kids] for that because they didn’t choose that…” she said, adding that her kids “have just started letting me know how people treat them.”
“So when they walk into the room, that’s what people are thinking about,” she said. “They’re not seeing them for who they are. And I think that has to be a really hard thing for them. So I would love to be able to protect them from that.”

Of course, the kids are in even more of the spotlight now that their mom has remarried to another A-lister, Ben Affleck, who shares three kids, Violet, 17, Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. That’s a lot of famous adults in one blended family, so it’s no wondered she worries!
In the interview with Audacy, J. Lo added that she wishes she could protect her kids from “being judged.”
“Everybody has to deal with being bullied, like you said, it doesn’t matter who you are, you can get bullied,” she admitted. “But being judged by people that you don’t even know in a way is I think really difficult for them to grow up and be themselves. They know that there’s a lens on them, and that’s hard.”
The Shotgun Wedding star realizes that this might not be a “very relatable thing” for many moms, but that doesn’t make it any less real for her family. “But it’s hard for them, I think. And I did that to them, and so again we have this guilt as moms, what we do and what we brought into their lives. So there’s that part.”
And Also, Everything Else
At the end of the day, there is something all moms can relate to. She wants to protect her kids from “everything.”
“But I think I would want to protect them from everything… “ Lopez told the outlet, adding, “You don’t ever want them to feel a moment of pain in their lives, but that’s not realistic. You realize as you get older, okay, the pain is necessary. The pain is actually good. The pain kind of makes you feel a little bit like a warrior when you get through it…”
J. Lo Believes Teens Are Going to ‘Change the World’
Earlier this month, J. Lo talked about parenting teens in an interview with TODAY. She told host Hoda Kotb, “They’re giving it to me!” about her kids.
She continued, “Listen, they’re becoming adults. They are challenging everything in life. They’re looking at everything, and these kids have so much information — so much more than we had — so they’re thinking and talking about things and about life in a different way than I did when I was 15 or 16 years old.”
“They’re, like, challenging everything and looking at everything — which is great, I think, for our world. I think they’re going to change the world, to be quite honest. And make it so much better, so much better than what we did,” she added.
