All moms know just how quickly play time can turn into someone getting hurt — usually the parent, TBH, as kids aren’t exactly known for being careful. My 6-month-old son poked me in the eye when I was breastfeeding, requiring eye drops and two weeks of healing, and he was just a baby! So imagine how much more damage older kids can do — especially when play-fighting. Kristen Bell joined the injured moms club this week, sharing a video of a gnarly nose cut she received from her 8-year-old daughter Delta.
“Minor jujitsu injury…took some teeth to the nose. Will recover,” she captioned a post on Instagram.
“You should see the other guy!!!!” she quipped. “(she is 8, the fruit of my loins, and has big, sharp, buck teeth.)”

Yikes! That sounds awful — I’ve been bitten on the nipple, shoulder, hand, and even arm before, but never on my nose. I can only imagine how much that must have hurt!
Bell also shared her video evidence of the attack — er, accident. In it, she’s sitting in a chair getting her hair and makeup done, where she shows off a big red gash on her nose. She zooms in on the mark and, whoa, it looks incredibly painful! At least she knows Delta would absolutely be able to defend herself if she was ever in a dangerous situation!
Many Parents Could Relate
Being a parent should come with a warning label, because kids can be absolutely vicious — mostly by accident! Basically every mom has a story, and many of them shared theirs with Bell.
“Few months ago my 8-year-old sat up abruptly to kiss me goodnight in the dark and broke my nose. It still clicks,” one person shared.
Another said, “My eldest slammed the car door as I was getting out. Hit my face, broke my nose & dislocated a finger. Also saved same kid from landing on his head as he was running off a porch. He was fine. I tore my rotator cuff. Got a phone call for Mother’s Day. Feeling a little salty 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣”
Another mom got black eyes from her baby. “My eight month old leaned in to kiss me but instead head butted me and gave me two black eyes 😂 he cute though,” she wrote.
Experts weighed in on the situation as well.
“Our 8 year olds are powerful! And their emotions can sometimes feel bigger than their punch, especially our highly sensitive ones ❤️ Ouch!!” psychologist Dr. Tracy Dalgleish commented.
Another person wrote, “Might want to get on an antibiotic…. (I’m a PA in Urgent Care). Human bites (even sweet, lovely humans who accidentally break your skin with their razor sharp little teeth) can cause infections. Augmentin is the antibiotic of choice for a human bite.”
Someone summed it up perfectly: “This motherhood thing ain’t for the faint of heart … or nose apparently,” they wrote. Ha! So true.
Kristen Bell & Delta Started Jiu-Jitsu To Overcome Social Struggles
The People We Hate at the Wedding star recently opened up about learning jiu-jitsu with her youngest daughter, Delta, who she shares with husband Dax Shepard. The pair are also parents to daughter Lincoln, 10.
In an interview with Real Simple in Feb. 2023, she shared that she joined jiu-jitsu with Delta to help her overcome social struggles.
“Jui-jitsu is all about leverage — it’s about using connection and distance,” she explained. “And doing it with my daughter brought us closer together. The first two classes were about using your voice, because if no one can hear you, you’ll never get any of your wants, hopes, or dreams. You have the right to take up the space that you take up, and to properly communicate with someone — to say yes or no.”
The Good Place star continued, “It’s been a ton of growth for both me and my daughter, who was struggling socially before we started, and has come so far and is doing things that just make my heart explode.”
“She stopped a fight on the yard at her school! It’s kind of phenomenal,” she added.
Kristen Bells’ Daughters Like to ‘Hurl’ Insults at Her
Physical pain isn’t the only way Delta and Lincoln hurt their parents. In an interview with E! News in Nov. 2022, Bell shared that her daughters keep her humble.
“The amount of insults that they can hurl at me in a very short period of time,” she said, “it really brings me back down to earth.”
No matter how put-together she feels at work or on the red carpet, “I come home and they will just they’ll pull the rug out from under you so quickly,” she added, explaining a movie about her life should be called “My Kids Keep Me Grounded.”
All kids must read the same playbook, because we can totally relate to this, too.
