Morning routines with kids are almost always hectic. With young ones, they are usually waking up way too early (psst! We are obsessed with the way this clock combats that problem) and already bouncing off the walls. And with tweens and above, they may be hitting snooze one too many times, making it a frantic dash to get them to school on time. So no matter their age, peaceful mornings are few and far between.
We’ve seen plenty of advice from parents on how to make mornings more calm and seamless. There’s this dad on Reddit who started using his Amazon Echo and letting Alexa guide his son through his morning routine. There are these funny strategies for getting extra-snoozy kids out of bed, like dumping frozen marbles on their bed. Or you could take a page from Kim Kardashian’s (very expensive) book and hire a pianist to play soothing Christmas songs every morning during the holidays.
No matter which way you slice it, and no matter how many marbles you freeze or how much sheet music you print out, mornings can be a struggle for kids and parents alike.
And so the internet was shocked and touched by a 6-year-old who is decidedly breaking the status quo. He is asking his parents to wake him up early, but it’s not so he can start playing with toys — it’s so he can start his day off right.
Soothing Sips
Children’s book author Alissa Holder recently shared a video of her 6-year-old son Ayaan on Instagram. The adorable little guy is making his way through his morning routing, sitting at his table, “casually drinking” lemon and honey tea.
He holds onto his blue mug the entire time, smacking his lips contently after taking a sip. It’s seriously the most wholesome thing we’ve seen today, so it’s no wonder it’s gone viral on Instagram and TikTok.
And that’s just the start of the routine!
Perfect Pairing
What goes best with a cuppa? A good read, of course! In the video, Ayaan looks over the edge of his mug, reading Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid.
“At first I laughed,” Holder captioned the post. “Because … who does he think he is? 😂😂😂. But then I realized that I’m glad he had this moment of calm and focus for himself before he starts his day at school.”
Holder explained to Today.com that Ayaan likes alone time as well as a “calm” and “relaxing” morning. and he also enjoys a calm and relaxing morning.
“He does not like to be rushed,” she said. “So I’ll get him up early, and he’ll use the extra time to do a quiet activity.”
All of this made one commenter want to know, “Whose 55-year-old daddy is trapped in this baby?😂😂”
Early Start
And when is this all happening, you ask? At 6:30 a.m. … after the precocious little boy has already finished his cereal.
Perfect Observations
Commenters were on it, pointing out the most adorable things. To add to the mature cuteness, Ayaan was dressed in a blue polo shirt with an unevenly popped collar.
“I love that his collar looks like the 6-year-old dressed himself but the old man in him needs his coffee and newspaper before work 😂,” one person on Instagram said.
“He looks like he’s got himself a healthy 401k,” another said.
“He def finishing the New York Times Crossword,” a TikTok user commented.
“Can he be my life coach?” one person asked on Instagram, and honestly, we’re on the same wavelength. We need to be following this kiddo’s example.
More Mindfulness
Fear not, Ayaan’s mindfulness practices don’t end there! He also has a “self-care caddy” outside his door. Holder told Today.com it’s filled with “essentials” like body lotions, face oil, and more books. And we seriously cannot get over this kid who seems to have it all figured out. Where can we get some of that?!
