Morning routines with kids are almost always hectic. With young ones, they are usually waking up way too early (psst! We are obsessed with the way this clock combats that problem) and already bouncing off the walls. And with tweens and above, they may be hitting snooze one too many times, making it a frantic dash to get them to school on time. So no matter their age, peaceful mornings are few and far between.

We’ve seen plenty of advice from parents on how to make mornings more calm and seamless. There’s this dad on Reddit who started using his Amazon Echo and letting Alexa guide his son through his morning routine. There are these funny strategies for getting extra-snoozy kids out of bed, like dumping frozen marbles on their bed. Or you could take a page from Kim Kardashian’s (very expensive) book and hire a pianist to play soothing Christmas songs every morning during the holidays.

No matter which way you slice it, and no matter how many marbles you freeze or how much sheet music you print out, mornings can be a struggle for kids and parents alike.

And so the internet was shocked and touched by a 6-year-old who is decidedly breaking the status quo. He is asking his parents to wake him up early, but it’s not so he can start playing with toys — it’s so he can start his day off right.
