Mean Girls is About to Turn 20 Years Old & Amy Poehler Isn’t the Only ‘Cool Mom’ Anymore

It’s been 19 years (NINETEEN! YEARS!) since Mean Girls debuted, and yes, you really are that old. *Sigh* Amanda Seyfried made an appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday and talked about her castmates from the iconic movie.

Seyfried was told it’s been 20 years since she starred as one of “The Plastics” (aka the clique of mean girls) in the movie, but it’s actually only been 19 years since it was released in April 2004. Which kind of sort of maybe makes us feel better. Because at least we’re not that old. But wow, they really missed an opportunity not releasing it on October 3 which has been dubbed “Mean Girls Day.” In the cult classic, on October 3, love interest Aaron Samuels asked Lohan what day it is. “It’s October 3,” she said.

Anyhoo! A lot has happened in 19 years and 1 month. “We’re all moms,” Seyfried said in shock before talking about her co-star Lindsay Lohan’s pregnancy.

And it’s true! Seyfried (who played Karen Smith) and Rachel McAdams (who played Regina George) each have a son and a daughter. Lacey Chabert (aka Gretchen Weiners) has a daughter, and Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) has one son. And now Lindsay Lohan — who played the lead role of Cady Heron — is pregnant. So step aside, Amy Poehler, because there’s a new crew of “cool moms” coming through.
