Ken has gotten a bad rep during the promotion of Barbie: The Movie. The doll, played by Ryan Gosling is “just Ken,” while Margot Robbie’s Barbie and all the other fabulous Barbie dolls run the world (as it should be, TBH). But just because Gosling’s not the main star (sorry, Ken!), doesn’t mean he isn’t doing his best to bring the character to life — something that may be too much to handle for his daughters Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 7.
Ryan Gosling's daughters' reaction to him trying to play Barbies with them is all the proof you need that he's the perfect choice to play Ken. https://t.co/zaqzkZB6eu

In a new red-carpet interview to promote the film, Gosling revealed that he has no plans to watch the new movie with his daughters yet, and it all boils down to one thing: there’s simply too much “Kenergy” in the highly anticipated movie.
Too Much ‘Kenergy’
At the world premiere of Barbie on July 9, at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, Gosling chatted with Entertainment Tonight about what his daughters, who he shares with wife Eva Mendes, think of his new role.
“They’ve seen a lot pieces of [the film], and helped me a lot with it,” Gosling told the outlet about his daughters helping him prepare to play Ken. “They were huge inspiration for me.”
But even though they’ve seen some pieces of the film, they aren’t ready to see the whole thing just yet.
“Well, it was, I think, weird enough for them that I played Ken anyway,” he shared. “I might like, you know, just hold off on them seeing the full Ken energy.”
I can definitely understand how seeing your dad in full-out Ken mode could be difficult!
Playing With Barbies
Earlier this month, The Notebook star opened up about playing Barbie dolls with his daughters.
“My kids, their Barbies aren’t even named ‘Barbie.’ They all have their own names [and] very complicated lives, backstories, interrelationships, history — you gotta know it all,” he told ET Canada. “If you are playing with the two that are estranged now for some reason [and you did not know that], it’s like, ‘Get out of here.’”
I am laughing so hard — that is exactly how I played with Barbies as a kid, too! Maybe starring in Barbie will help Gosling keep up a little more.
Eva Mendes Holds Down the Fort at Home as a Water Girl
While Gosling is promoting his new movie, Mendes is at home trying to hold down the fort. She recently opened up about what her summer looks like right now.
“So this summer was supposed to be like an easy — I was like, bring boredom back, but you know things happen and like, the kids want to do certain classes and things, so now I am just a chauffeur — like, a water girl,” she said on her Instagram Story last week.
She added, “It’s hot, so you know, I just bring them water. I’m a water girl and a chauffeur and a wiper downer. I wipe them down because they’re all sweaty all over each other. I just wanted to say that this summer of boredom that I had planned, turned.”
We’ve all been there, girl!
