You’ll never stop needing your mom. Even if you marry a royal prince and have kids of your own like Kate Middleton, who reportedly still goes to her mom Carole Middleton for guidance on one very important topic: parenting.
The Princess of Wales shares Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, with husband Prince William. She may have royal advisors on everything from what to wear to how to do her job — but she reportedly needs her mom for “guidance” when it comes to making decisions involving her kids. And we completely get it!
Princess Kate Still Needs Her Mom
Royal commentor Jennie Bond revealed on the When the Middletons Met the Monarchy documentary that Princess Kate goes to her mother for “help, advice, and guidance” regarding the upbringing of the royal kids rather than go to King Charles and Queen Camilla for help, perGoodTo.
Royal author Tom Quinn explained that the Royal Family is “too formal” to offer solid parenting advice. “I suspect everyone thinks that in terms of the children, the royal family will inevitably have the most influence, but that is entirely wrong,” he said. “It will be the Middletons that have the influence, because the royal family is too formal, it’s too stuck in its ways.”
Princess Kate also has to deal with a problem that anyone with in-laws has to deal with: jealousy. “I suppose there is a little tension at times between who gets to see the grandkids the most,” Bond said. “Kate will always turn to Carole for help, advice guidance, and just get together and romping around with the kids — possibly before she would get together with Camilla and Charles.”
It’s understandable. Most people have a tendency to turn toward their own mom for help before their mother-in-law — and our in-laws aren’t even royalty!
Prince Williams Turns to the Middletons Too
Royal expert Richard Kay said that the Prince of Wales also turns to Carole and Michael Middleton for advice. “Prince William has said, ‘Look I am not always going to be available for the royal family, I have another family and that is Mike and Carole Middleton and that is very important to me and Kate and my children,’” he said in the documentary, per GoodTo.
This isn’t the first time royal experts have talked about William and Kate’s close relationship with her parents. Royal expert Duncan Larcombe previously told OK! that the duo are following the “Middleton parenting model,” which involves their kids seeing them as “best friends.”
“William has based his children’s upbringing on the Middleton model – three children, affluent, but hard-working parents and lots of love in the house,” Larcombe said. “By the time Kate was in her early twenties, she counted her mother and father on the list of her best friends. That’s what William and Kate are aspiring to with their children.”
Middleton’s Children Are Reportedly Her ‘Priority’
The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently in Balmoral Castle for the summer, spending time with their kids before they go back to school. This has drawn criticism from some, who think they are taking too much time away from work.
Royal expert Richard Palmer said, “I do think that is an issue for them as well. They’re very popular, they’re a huge asset to the UK, but there have been eyebrows raised in other parts of the royal household about the amount of time they’re not doing official engagements.”
But making family time a priority (something Princess Diana did) is a priority for Middleton. “The Princess of Wales has made it clear that her children will remain her priority for the foreseeable future and when you hear William and Harry talking about his childhood and how their father was always at his desk or away somewhere, you can perhaps understand why that is a priority,” Palmer added.
Whether it was her mom’s influence or her natural instincts, one thing’s for sure: Princess Kate is a great mom!
