Pregnancy isn’t slowing Shawn Johnson East down! The Olympic gold medalist just proved how amazing moms are (duh!) by doing a cartwheel on a balance beam — baby bump and all! — and we are cheering her on.
“You think you can still do a cartwheel on the balance beam?” Johnson’s husband Andrew East asks her in a new video on Instagram. “Yes!” she decisively says. The couple are at a gymnastics studio, and Johnson walks over to stand on a low balance beam on that’s sitting on mats on the ground. She’s wearing leggings and an olive green t-shirt, with her hair up in a ponytail. She effortlessly does the cartwheel, sticking the landing at the end and smiling.

“That wasn’t bad!” she says with a laugh. In fact, it was really good! Even East couldn’t do as well on the balance beam — and he’s not even pregnant! Moms truly are on another level.
The adorable video also shows the couple’s 3-year-old daughter Drew walking across the beam and their 2-year-old son Jett learning how to balance on bars. These kids definitely take after their mom!
People Were (Rightly!) Impressed
The comments were full of praise for the gymnastics star. “She did a better cartwheel pregnant than I can do not pregnant,” one person wrote.
Someone else shared, “Great job! I couldn’t even jump at that point 😂.” Uh, same! How this woman does a cartwheel (on a balance beam!) without hurting her back is beyond me.
“Great balance pregnant🥰🎉,” another person praised.
Handstand While Pregnant
Last month, Johnson showed off her gymnastics skills at home. This time, she did a perfect handstand in the backyard, balanced perfectly even with a baby bump.
“Doing everything possible to try and get comfortable this pregnancy, even if that means getting upside down hahaha,” Johnson jokingly wrote in her caption. Is there anything Johnson can’t do?!
Drew Wants to Learn Gymnastics…From Her Dad
In a July 2023 interview with E! News, Johnson revealed that although her daughter Drew is interested in gymnastics, she only wants to learn from her dad.
“She still asks Daddy to teach her gymnastic stuff instead of me, which kills me,” Johnson said. “I think it’s the funniest thing in the entire world. Like she wanted to learn a handstand and I was like, ‘Let me show you.’ And she’s like, ‘No, no, Mama. Daddy.’ And I was like, all righty.”
