Zooey Deschanel has been spending some quality time in Europe with her kids Elsie Otter, 8, and Charlie Wolf, 6, who she shares with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. The New Girl alum and her fiancé Jonathan Scott took the kids on a whirlwind trip and shared rare photos of the kids.

“Europe things,” Deschanel captioned a photo carousel from their vacation on Instagram, which looks to be from Edinburgh, Scotland. The first photo is a selfie of the Property Brothers co-host and Deschanel, who are standing in front of flowers on a cloudy day, with Deschanel wearing a colorful scarf, floral sunglasses, and a sunhat.
The Kids Are Stylish
The first glimpse of Elsie is in the next photo. She has long dark hair like her mom, and she is wearing a black cardigan with a white lace collar as she admires stained glass windows inside a building. In another photo, you can see Elsie’s full outfit. Her cardigan is over a pink-and-white gingham dress, and she has a matching pink headband in her hair that is adorable. She’s standing on a ledge, overlooking the city beyond, next to her younger brother, who also has Deschanel’s dark brown hair. He’s wearing an olive-green jumpsuit. These mini style icons clearly inherited their mama’s colorful fashion sense, and it’s so cute on them.
In another hilarious photo, Elsie and Charlie are passed out on a bench inside another historical building. Elsie is in a pink floral dress paired with blue socks and pink ballet slippers, and Charlie is wearing a light blue button-down shirt over brown pants. Both kids are leaned over on the bench seemingly trying to get a nap in. We don’t blame them at all!

Another person wrote about how much Elsie looks like her mama. “She looks like you (from behind) ❤️.”
Elsie Hasn’t Always Liked Jackets
The 500 Days of Summer star talked about her daughter’s fashion sense in a March 2019 interview with PEOPLE.
“She likes to put together outfits and she has very distinct opinions on what she will or will not wear,” Deschanel revealed. “It’s very sweet to see her say, ‘I like this’ or ‘I don’t like that,’ and express herself in that way.”
And one thing she didn’t like wearing as a 3-year-old? Jackets of any kind. “She doesn’t ever want to wear jackets. So that’s hard in the rain and when it gets cold,” she continued. “It’s been an unusually cold winter in L.A. and it’s been hard that she just will not wear a jacket. Or a sweater, she won’t wear a sweater even.” At least she wears a sweater now!
Jonathan Scott Is a Bonus Dad
Scott, whose been dating Deschanel since 2019, opened up about his “struggle” being a bonus dad to her kids.
“One thing that was a struggle early on was that the kids didn’t necessarily run up and jump in my arms and give me a big hug,” he said in a Father’s Day interview on his website. “I also remember several times when they’d be out with other kids and someone would say, ‘Oh your daddy’s so funny,’ and they’d be like, ‘That’s not my daddy, he’s my Jonathan.’ So that would hurt a little bit.”
“But then I realized that in their mind, that’s not a mean thing to say — it’s how they know me,” he continued. “Over time, I worked on expressing my feelings to them, and the things that make me sad and happy. I think it’s good for kids to know that grownups have feelings, too. Having that dialogue with them is so important because as they get older, they’ll continue to keep those lines open.”
With time, things have gotten better. “Anyways, now when they see me, they scream my name and they come running and want a big hug,” he said. “So, you go through these different phases and adapt, but I think as long as that communication and sincerity is there, they’ll know they can trust you and that you have feelings, too.”
