It can’t be easy running a billion dollar company, filming a reality show, starring in her first TV series, and parenting four kids, but Kim Kardashian is doing exactly that — and as a single mom! She credits her ability to crush it to two very important people in her life.
The American Horror Story: Delicate star recently opened up about the biggest influences to her parenting style: her own parents, Kris Jenner and the late Robert Kardashian.
Her Dad
In a cover story for CR Fashion Book, Kardashian revealed that important things that her parents taught her about parenting.
“My parents had different parenting styles and I learned from both of them,” she said. “My dad was strict but very fair and always calm. I never heard him yell. He talked everything through no matter how much trouble we might have been in.”
It sounds like Robert, who died from esophageal cancer in 2003, really influenced Kardashian. Especially because she has an open-book policy with her kids, North, 10, Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4, who she shares with ex-husband Kanye West.
For example, when she got divorced, she stayed calm and open with her kids. In an interview with Robin Roberts in April 2022, she revealed that she is “really open and honest” with her children. Kardashian added, “You have to just be there for them. No matter what, even in this crazy life that we live, you just have to have a really open dialogue with your children.”
Her Mom
During her interview with CR Fashion Book, the SKIMS founder revealed how her mom influenced her parenting style as well.
“My mom was more frantic and way more chill with rules,” she said, which we’ve definitely seen throughout the years on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. “I definitely have aspects from both my parents. I have the best parents in the entire world and feel so lucky that I got to see those examples and learn from them.”
“The biggest lesson is that our kids will do what they see, not always what they are told, and I saw the most loving and smart examples,” she added.
Kris had six kids, after all: Kim, 42, Kourtney, 44, Khloé, 39, and Robert Kardashian, 36, with Robert Kardashian Sr., and Kendall, 27, and Kylie Jenner, 26, with ex Caitlyn Jenner.
In a recent interview with Vogue Italia, Kardashian said, “I constantly ask [my mom], ‘How did you do it? Six kids, six big personalities. We’re all so different, how did you really handle it?’”
“She is just like, ‘Why do you think I had my vodka at 5:00 o’clock every day?’” Kardashian added. Ah, so relatable!
Her Kids
The Kardashians star also shared with CR Fashion Book how she spends one-on-one time with her kiddos.
“Each one of my babies is so different and I love that and try to nurture that,” she told the outlet. “Lately, I have been traveling with each of my children separately to take them on some one-on-one time exploring different cultures and worlds. And at the same time doing things that they are passionate about.”
“For example, Saint loves soccer so I’ve enjoyed traveling the world to see games and really bonding with him through the sport,” she continued. “I want all of my kids to be one-hundred percent who they are.”
Another thing that’s important to her? Family time. “I hope my children will cherish the family community that we’ve tried to instill,” she said. “For my whole family, we all live close together and the cousins feel like siblings. It’s so special they all have each other.”
