After becoming a parent, so much of your energy is dedicated to your child(ren) that not much is left in the tank at the end of the day — or the beginning, or the middle, if we’re being totally honest. Parenting is a full-time job in itself, and it’s one that requires long hours with very few breaks. As much as we love our kids, we’re just so dang tired most of the time — and even celebrity parents can relate to the never-ending role that is mothering or fathering.
A lot of parents have so little gas in the tank at the end of the day that we can barely make it through a TV episode before our eyes drift shut. So suffice it to say, sex is often the very last thing on the list of to-dos. Even former swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen and R&B crooner John Legend struggle to make time for intimacy after starting their family. During a conversation with Women’s Health, Teigen shared that they may not be getting busy as much as when they were childless, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still attracted to one another. She said, “We still have that passion for each other, but are we doing it randomly in a dressing room? No!”
And for single dad Anderson Cooper, he simply doesn’t have the bandwidth for dating — or any physical activities that come along with it — because he’s so focused on raising his kiddos. The truth of the matter is that priorities simply shift once children come into play. It’s difficult to make time for the things you were used to doing before kids while so much of the day is centered around them after they become part of your life. So if you are struggling to make time, or find energy, for sex, don’t worry — even the world’s biggest stars struggle to find balance.
Chrissy Teigen
“It doesn’t matter who you are — even if you’re a sexy R&B crooner or an ex–swimsuit model, you’re just tired!” Chrissy Teigen admitted to Women’s Health in September 2018. She explained, “We still have that passion for each other, but are we doing it randomly in a dressing room? No!”
After a laugh, Teigen added, “We’ll get back into it again. But it is funny: If he performs somewhere, and I go, I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s sexy.’ We’ll probably have sex that night,” she cheekily divulged.
Anderson Cooper
With two kids who are just under two years apart, Anderson Cooper is too tired to get back into the swing of dating — or any other activities that might come with it.
During an interview with People, the CNN news anchor divulged, “Either I’m working or I’m with the kids, and I’m exhausted by the time I get home.” Cooper continued, “I used to stay up until midnight or 1 a.m. every night, not doing anything particularly exciting. But even just watching stuff on Netflix or on Max or whatever — now I get home at 9:30 p.m. and I’m ready to go to bed,” he confessed. So, suffice it to say there’s no “Netflix and chill” happening for this tired dad.
Jenna Dewan
When Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum were married, she opened up about the realities of their sex life as parents. Speaking to Cosmopolitan in December 2016, the Step Up star explained that she and Tatum are both very in-tune with their sexuality as dancers, so their sex life together was “very happy and healthy.”
However, with a 3-year-old daughter at the time, Dewan added she had her fair share of days where she just wasn’t in the mood. “There are times when you’re too busy, too tired,” she told the outlet.
Tamera Mowry-Housley
Tamera Mowry-Housley’s husband Adam doesn’t mind co-sleeping with their two kids. But for the Sister Sister alum, it’s impossible to stay asleep throughout the night with her children flailing around like “a drunk octopus.” To get her hubby on board with banning their son and daughter from their bed, Mowry-Housley got creative with negotiations.
While chatting with E! News in December 2018, The Real co-host shared, “[Sex] always works, though. At one point, I was like, ‘Dude, you’re not getting any. If you want sex, I at least got to have four to six hours with you in bed.'”
Hilary Duff
After Hilary Duff welcomed her firstborn with ex-husband Mike Comrie, she had to rework their sex schedule. In December 2012 she told Stuff, “It’s definitely different. I’m so exhausted at the end of each day, so I’m like, ‘Can this not happen at night when I’m exhausted?'” The actress added, “You find different times to do it.”
Ayda Field
During a June 2016 appearance on the UK’s Loose Women, per Mirror, Ayda Field opened up about her sex life following children with husband Robbie Williams. Of slowing down in the bedroom after becoming a parent, Field said, “It’s a dialogue that some women don’t feel comfortable having about but it’s something that a lot of us experience.”
She continued, “I’ve got two young kids, I’m knackered, I’m really tired, I want to put some sweatpants on, I want to eat chocolate and I want to go to sleep, and sleep under the covers in the fetal position.”
