North West is part of Generation Alpha (the ones who were born after Gen Z, beginning in 2010), she’s part of the biggest reality television family in America (the world?), and now she’s on the cover of her first magazine — at just 10 years old. (We were playing with Barbies and doodling in notebooks at 10, but hey.) The whole thing oozed with confidence and made her look so grown up.
“Performing Is My Favorite.”
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest daughter was interviewed for i-D’s Fall/Winter 2023 The New Wave Issue, which published online yesterday. She was photographed in a variety of outfits, including a green-and-yellow tie-dye sweater with a smiley face, an oversized black sweater that made her torso look a million miles long, and oversized jeans that went way past her feet.
But despite the mature modeling and grown-up looks, North’s answers to the interview questions were refreshingly kid-like. After she named a Yeezy song as one of her current favorites, North said, “Yeah, I like singing. Performing is my favorite.”
The interviewer asked her if she thought she got that performance-buzz from her family, and she responded, “Sometimes, mostly from me though. And then a little bit of my dad.”
OK, OK. We see the confidence! Also, she is such a daddy’s girl.
“The Best Ever”
In another hilarious moment, the interviewer asked North: “Who’s your style icon?” We know Kardashian loves Marilyn Monroe and North loves wearing her dad’s old clothes, so you would think she might answer along that vein. But, no. She replies simply: “Me.” Which tracks, since she’s becoming known for her edgy style in her own right.
Later, she described herself in three words: “The Best Ever.”
I can’t help but smile at her answers. It’s a little cocky, yes? But the self-esteem is off the charts, and honestly, that’s so refreshing to see in a young girl.
She also has many innocent kid answers. Her favorite fashion show? “My little sister’s fashion show in her closet.” Favorite part of the interview? “That I got fries, because I really craved fries, and I love doing hair and I got to do my own edges for this shoot.” What a dream, right?
“I Want to Own Yeezy and SKIMS”
Finally, the quintessential kid question: what do you want to be when you grow up? North had a handful of answers ready, including taking over her parents’ businesses one day. (She’s still a nepo baby, after all).
“A basketball player, a rapper, um … Well, when I was seven, I wanted to be a boxer. But now I don’t want to be a boxer,” she said. “I’m going to do art on the side. When I’m, like, 13, I want to walk dogs, to make money to buy art supplies, because everything around here is so expensive. So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell. Also, one day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS, and I want to be a business owner.”
She’ll probably do it all and more, too. Can I be North when I grow up?
