It’s the season of giving, and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are passionate about teaching their kids to give back. The couple spent their Sunday with their eldest children, 7-year-old Luna and 5-year-old Miles, helping others in a hands-on way. We absolutely love this idea!
Luna & Miles’ First Time at the Ronald McDonald House
The Legend-Teigen family volunteered together at their local Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), where they served food to families of sick kids. Legend, Teigen, Luna, and Miles wore matching white RMHC aprons as they posed for pictures, baked pancakes, played basketball, and more with the families there.
“I’m honored to support Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization that helps families with sick children stay together and near leading hospitals and health care services around the world,” the “All of Me” singer wrote on Instagram today.
“On Sunday, my family and I shared our family tradition of making Sunday morning pancakes with the families staying at our local Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles,” he continued. “As a father, I understand how important it is to have a strong support system during difficult times, which makes the mission of RMHC one that is close to my heart. #KeepingFamiliesClose #RMHCPartner @rmhc.” How sweet is that?! What a powerful lesson learned and great memory made today for these kids.

Legend, who also shares Esti, 9 months, and Wren, 4 months, with Teigen, also opened up to PEOPLE about how special it was to bring Luna and Miles with them. “This was our kids’ first time at the Ronald McDonald House,” he explained. “We made our mochi pancakes, one of Chrissy’s recipes. And a lot of the kids that were there, some were patients, some were siblings of patients but our kids bonded with all of them quickly. They were playing basketball with them, having a good time. I enjoyed watching them.”
The Voice coach also shared how he and Teigen want to teach their kids about helping others. “We try to teach them that it’s important to give back and to help other people,” he told the outlet. “They’ve gone with us to help feed people who are hungry, they’ve gone to homeless shelters with us. We try to teach them to be appreciative of what they have and also know that there are a lot of people that don’t have the privileges that they do, so we should do what we can to help them.” A truly beautiful lesson!
Many People Had Positive Experiences at Ronald McDonald House Charities
The Ronald McDonald House Charities provides more than 2.2 million overnight stays to families of hospitalized children each year, helping families save more than $611 million in lodging and meal expenses.
Many people commented on Legend’s post with their personal experience with RMHC. “My older sister, who unfortunately passed away in 2014, was born with Spinal Bifida,” one person commented. “She was in and out of the hospital for honestly as long as I can remember. If it wasn’t for Ronald McDonald House, I don’t know what my family would have done. This amazing organization allowed us to still be together (as much as we could be) during some very difficult and stressful hospital stays. Even as a child, I understood the significance and importance of this amazing organization and will always be eternally grateful for them and people like you who support them. ❤️”
“This foundation helped relieve so much stess [sic] when my baby who is now 10, almost passed away at birth due to complications from being premature,” another person wrote. “The staff and volunteers touch lives in a way they will never understand. ❤️ this is beautiful!!”
Someone else wrote, “RMRC is they [sic] best. They helped my sister and her family when her son was battling cancer. It was their refuge. Well done!!! 👏👏👏”
Talking to your kids about giving back is great, but showing them by volunteering with them will create a core memory and give them a spirit of caring for others.
“We know from losing a pregnancy to just having friends of ours who have kids with health problems, it is just such a difficult experience and any help that you can get, any support is so valuable,” Legend told PEOPLE.
