It’s always been clear that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — have a special relationship. The three have faced the extraordinary world they’ve been thrust into as a united front, waving in synchrony, holding hands, and (sort of) smiling for the cameras. And while everything about their family dynamic must seem strange to outsiders, an insider revealed that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have what you might consider a “normal” or “ideal” sibling relationship. That is, she loves being a big sister.
“It’s so sweet seeing the three [siblings] together and particularly Charlotte being super protective of her little brother,” Sophie Mirman, founder of the British childrenswear brand Trotters, tells PEOPLE.
That loving, super protective side has become more and more obvious with age, as Louis attends more events, and as Charlotte continues to embrace her big sister role. And while George seems to take his big brother duties seriously as well, let’s face it, he’s got the whole “preparing for the thrown” thing to focus on too.
Prince William revealed in 2021 that Charlotte’s love for Louis isn’t one-sided. And how could it be?! Of course the Royal Wild Card loves the Queen of Sass.
From stern chats with the paparazzi to sticking her tongue out, Princess Charlotte keeps the whole family on their toes. https://t.co/7TCgfnMXMS

William shared that the family loves to play music and dance in the morning. “Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything,” he said. “She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing.”
Aww! It sounds like we have a sweet little copycat following around his “super protective” big sis. And if you think that’s just lip service, we have no doubt the following photos will convince you this sibling love is the real deal.
On the Lookout!
During the 2024 Trooping the Colour parade, Prince Louis of Wales was clearly looking out for his big sis Princess Charlotte of Wales!
Go For It
Someone has to give in to Prince Louis’ infamous antics! Princess Charlotte graciously let him blow out her candle at the “Together At Christmas” Carol Service at Westminster Abbey in 2023.
Admitting It’s Funny
Sometimes the best way to show support is to laugh with a person. Because maybe Kate and William will let up on Louis if they see that his big sister thinks his screams on the balcony of Buckingham Palace are silly and harmless.
Don’t Even Think About It
Princess Charlotte gave some of her fiercest side eye yet when walking into King Charles III’s coronation with her little brother. With a no-nonsense expression like that, we wouldn’t dare mess with Prince Louis.
Hand-in-Hand
Big sis was not letting her little bro brave Westminster Abbey alone.
Checking It Out
Charlotte had no problem pausing her perusal of the program at her grandfather’s coronation when her little brother — who was adorably unimpressed by the pomp and circumstance of the day — had something to point out at Westminster Abbey.
The 411
Princess Charlotte is always willing and able to show little Louis the ropes and prepare him for whatever royal tradition is about to take place.
A Sweet Look
Without him knowing, Princess Charlotte gave her little sibling a loving smile when they walked to the 2023 Easter service at Windsor Castle.
Ready To Step In
Princess Charlotte was one step behind Prince Louis when they attended the 2022 Christmas Day Service in Sandringham, giving him a chance to fly solo. From her serious expression, we can tell she was ready to step in whenever necessary.
Reading Buddies
We can’t get over this precious moment when the young royal siblings were caught looking at the Platinum Jubilee program. What’s unclear is whether they were actually reading it or having a secret sibling meeting. What is clear is that it’s adorable either way.
Reaching For His Sister
Back in July 2019, when Prince Louis was just 3 months old, he was already reaching for his big sister, knowing she would one day be his protector and confidante.
Lending A Hand
While Prince George (understandably) goofed off, Princess Charlotte helped her mom take care of Prince Louis — grabbing what looks to be a toy — while they attended The King Power Royal Charity Polo Day in 2019.
Matching Expressions
When Prince Louis was 2 months old, Princess Charlotte strategically tried to take the attention away from the little royal (who couldn’t help but cry!) by mimicking his actions during the Trooping The Colour at the Queen’s annual birthday parade.
Partners In Crime
Princess Charlotte joined her then-2-month-old brother at the window of Buckingham Palace to wave to the crowds. Even though he was so young, she wouldn’t let him miss out on all the fanfare.
