School districts across the county in 2015 banned some ridiculous items from school grounds — Wonder Woman lunchboxes, leggings and flags. Cartwheels, the game of tag and even the Pledge of Allegiance were under attack from schools this year.
Here’s a recap of the items banned from schools in 2015.
Bringing kids their lunch
Whose kid hasn’t forgotten their homework, lunch or gym clothes at home and called Mom or Dad for help? Well, if your kid attends Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Florida, you’re out of luck. Parents are banned from dropping off forgotten items at school.
Cartwheels
What’s more fun than being able show off your ability to do cartwheels and handstands during recess? Not anymore. One primary school banned cartwheels and handstands, saying they are too dangerous.
Wonder Woman lunchbox
Never mind that Wonder Woman sought peace and justice or that she is one of the few non-princess role models for girls. A little girl named Laura was sent home with a warning letter to not bring her Wonder Woman lunchbox back to school over concerns about violence.
Laughing
Whatever you do, don’t laugh at school, because it could get you spanked. A fifth-grade and sixth-grade student, who attend Covington Integrated Arts Academy in Tipton County, Tennessee, were paddled for laughing and talking on a school bus.
Donald Trump clothing
A high school in Arizona banned pro-Donald Trump clothing at a Friday football game because it would be “racist” or “offensive.” Perhaps Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona, has the right idea.
Christmas
Don’t call that evergreen tree a Christmas tree. A school district in Marlbough, New Hampshire, banned the use of the word “Christmas” in a flier advertising the town’s annual tree lighting event.
American flag
Leave your flags at home — even Old Glory — if you attend school in the Dickinson County School District in Tennessee. The school district has banned all flags in an effort to prevent students from potentially offending others. Anyone caught with a flag will be kicked out of school.
The Pledge of Allegiance
Brooklyn, New York, elementary school principal Eujin Jaela Kim made headlines in December when it came out that she had banned students at PS 169 from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. But in mid-December, District 15 superintendent Anita Skop stepped in and brought two fifth-grade boys to the main office to lead the school in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance over the school’s public address system, making it the first time the pledge was said over the school’s PA system since the beginning of the school year
Leggings
Girls who attend Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich, Massachusetts, must wear a skirt, shorts or a long top that overs their rear end if they want to wear yoga pants or leggings to school. Otherwise they will be sent home.
Playing tag
Citing concern about students’ emotional and physical safety, Mercer Island School District in Washington banned students from playing tag during recess, saying, “Students are expected to keep their hands to themselves” while at play.
