Kate runs marathons and even ran the infamous Ironman Triathlon, so she’s no stranger to strength. Naturally her daughters take after her. This is Kate’s (at the time) 7-year-old showing her “game face” before her first triathlon.
Go-cart
Here her girls are just having the best time racing around on a tricycle/pushcart. As Kate says, “They don’t need to have their hair done, clothes matching or even be clean to be loved or accepted.”
Soccer
Girls looking tough and awesome before (or after) a soccer game. I have no doubt who won that one.
Slide
I’ve definitely experienced this moment but expressed it with way more fear than this girl’s showing.
Car ride
The light in this shot is just incredible. I think it perfectly captures the “boldness” Kate talks about with such affection on the series’ page.
Skating
Sometimes girls fall during their adventures, but just like boys, they pick themselves right back up and keep on skating.
Worm
Worms were the best part of rainstorms for me too when growing up. Sometimes it’s all about the gross, interesting things. Am I right?
Water play
This one may be my favorite, because you can’t tell whether the girls are in the water or the sky. Kate told us, “I wanted to celebrate them just as they are and show them that is enough.” Well, this image is certainly a celebration.
The game
“Initially this project started as a desire to record my daughters and the memories of their childhood… I started to see patterns and recognize that the images where the girls were authentically captured were the strongest images.”
Brawlin’
Just some girls’ playful roughhousing, as girls do just as much if not more than boys.
Lone player
“There’s a lot of pressure for girls (and women) to look a certain way, act in a certain manner, and I wanted to let my daughters know that who they naturally are is enough.” More than enough. It’s the best thing there is.
