When your baby is so new and fresh, it’s easy to develop a case of germaphobia that can last up until school years and beyond. As a new mom, my diaper bag was always stockpiled with different types of hand sanitizers. I had two shopping cart covers (one for each car), and I essentially made everyone within two feet of my son wear a mask. I mean, I didn’t even want our dog near my newborn son because who knows what filth her paws brought into the house?
They say that once you have a few more kids, all of the germophobic nuances go out the (recently Windexed) window. Well, I don’t know who “they” are, because I don’t see my love for all things clean going away anytime soon. Can you relate? Here’s my list of 13 essential products for germaphobe moms.
Munch Mitt wearable teether
This wearable teether stays on a baby’s hand, fitting them literally like a glove. It’s perfect for the germaphobe mom who’s constantly worrying about her baby’s teether dropping on the floor. (Amazon, $16.99)
SoapSox bath toys
These bath toys have a patented formula that keeps them from collecting mold and mildew, a mom’s biggest fear when it comes to bringing toys into the tub (or the pool). (Amazon, $9.99)
Diaper-changing glove sacks
This ingenious — and pretty hilarious — invention converts from a glove to a dirty diaper sack so a germaphobe mom’s hands never have to come into contact with a dirty diaper. (BabyBum Products, $20)
BabyBum diaper cream brush
This is essentially a spatula for diaper cream so your hands don’t get dirty. (BabyBum Products, $11.99)
Eat Cleaner wipes
These wipes are almost 100 percent more effective at cleaning your fruits and veggies than cleaning them with water alone. They remove wax, pesticide residue and dirt that carry bacteria. Perfect for cleaning on-the-go snacks (read: bribes) and even pacifiers. (Amazon, $12.99)
Baby Change-n-Go
This portable diaper-changing station hangs from public bathroom stall doors and walls so you don’t have to use those gross Koala Kare ones. They’re perfect for restaurants, airports, rest stops and for germaphobe dads who are unable to find a men’s restroom with a baby-changing station. (Amazon, $99.95)
Soothie Spray
Parents can use this spray on their baby’s bottom to soothe and spritz on their hands to protect from bacteria. It’s a two-for-one germ-busting win! (Hawk + Sloane, $14.99)
Babyganics hand sanitizer
Babyganic’s portable hand sanitizer is alcohol-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free, non-allergenic and claims to kill 99.9 percent of germs. The perfect size to pop in your diaper bag, your car, your purse, anywhere you can fit it… (Amazon, $18.75)
Force of Nature electrolyzed cleaning system
This innovative electrolyzed cleaning system takes three ingredients and transforms them into a cleaner that’s as effective as bleach. No, really! Salt, water, vinegar and this gadget are all you need to create a powerful, nontoxic cleaner you can use all over the house and on the kid’s toys. Hello highchair. I’m all over you. (Amazon, $69.99)
Shower Pill body wipe
When a simple wipey-wipe-down is not enough for you, welcome to your solution. It’s basically a disposable washcloth that cleans the whole body (think: after your kid sweats all day at school or camp), so you have a leg up on bath time. (ShowerPill, $9.99)
Hiccapop nursery organizer
Hiccapop’s nursery organizer and baby diaper caddy keeps all your changing essentials in one place, less likely to get lost or gather dust. As well as making it simple to give its contents a regular wipe down, it has a washable surface too. (Amazon, $19.92)
CleanSmart toy disinfectant spray
CleanSmart’s toy disinfectant spray kills more than 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses, mold, fungus and germs on toys, including mouth toys and pacifiers. It turns into simple saline water, meaning no rinse is required. (Amazon, $12.49)
Hip Peas shampoo & body wash
No end of the day is complete without a proper bath with a great shampoo and body wash. I’ve used and loved several types of baby-friendly products, but Hip Peas is my current fave. The brand’s natural and hypoallergenic ingredients are great for Baby’s skin. (Amazon, $12.35)
