School is out for the summer, and new adventures await parents and kids alike in July — according to The Unofficial Parenting Rules of Summer as well as astrologer Natasha Weber. This month, Weber tells SheKnows, parents can expect an emotional kickback if they’ve been feeling restrained or fenced in; you’ll likely be looking for a little more me time as well as more acknowledgement and appreciation from family and friends.
“For parents, July spotlights well-being through striking a proper balance between attending to children’s needs versus prioritizing self-care,” she explains. “If left unchecked, Mars retrograde has the potential to get under our skin and light a fire of feelings. The good news is that July’s grand trine between Jupiter, the sun and Neptune can assist in counteracting minor frustrations by focusing on life’s little blessings.”
So do just that: Count the little things, and aim to create a balance in your life between caring for your kids and yourself. And hold on tight — Weber has provided some insight for every zodiac sign as to what you (and your kids) can look forward to as July takes us on a wild ride.
Aries: March 21 – April 19
July may be a little injury ridden, says Weber. "Overzealous antics may cause some minor scrapes, bumps and bruises when Mars opposes Mercury in early July," she explains. "Have the Band-Aids ready, but just as soon as you have nursed your child’s wound, their tears will dry and they will be all smiles again."
She also recommends nixing excess sugar intake, as this can wreck concentration and may fuel intense behavior.
For Aires parents, there may be some good news on the way. "A long-awaited pregnancy may finally be realized when Venus graces your zone of children," she says. And for those in a relationship, plan a date night to reignite that old spark.
Taurus: April 20 – May 20
"Uranus, the planet of revolution, has settled into your sign," says Weber. "If you have been shouldering more than your fair share of responsibility, perhaps it’s time your partner pitched in more? Don’t be afraid to stand your ground, Taurus."
She says you may be surprised to find out how willing your family is to share your heavy load and to pitch in on your regular household tasks, but the key is to ask for what you want instead of waiting in frustration for them to get with the program.
Also, be ready for an amazing family gathering in July, and expect some big changes, as she says the makeup of your home may get a bit of a shakeup this month. "Adopting a pet brings joy when Venus enters your sixth house on July 22," she notes.
Gemini: May 21 – June 21
Weber says you should resist the urge to be a helicopter parent this month. "The universe reminds you that standing back and allowing your child to learn from their own mistakes is sometimes the most loving thing a parent can do," she explains. Nurturing is the way to go, but take a step back and let your child learn from life.
She also notes that this month is a great time to restock your art supplies. "Encourage your little Picasso to tap into their artistic gifts with art and craft activities, and watch their creative sparks fly!"
Cancer: June 22 – July 22
"Growing your family tree is in the cards this month when Jupiter, the planet of abundance, makes its presence felt in your chart," says Weber. "If you’ve been considering adoption, IVF or surrogacy, the lucky planet brings good news."
She also recommends making sure your partner is on the same page when it comes to establishing (and moving forward with) common goals. "Recharging your batteries before embarking on a new adventure reaps the best results, but Saturn warns you not to sign up for anything without having the full support of your family," she warns.
Leo: July 23 – Aug. 22
Parties are in the air for Leos, says Weber. Your little Leo cub will be celebrating a birthday soon, so expect lots of energy when the big day rolls around. She also suggests throwing a surprise party for your partner this month — just because. She notes that your thoughtful gesture will be remembered and repaid.
Also important in July is family time. Summer break makes it easy to plan vacations — or staycations — or just time to hang out together over the weekend. "Making time for fun and games this month is the key to family togetherness and bonding," she explains.
Virgo: Aug. 23 – Sept. 22
Tough love may be in the cards for Virgo parents, says Weber. "Saturn asks that you adhere to boundaries among the tantrums," she explains. "The way to go is to teach your child self-discipline by leading with your own example. Ditch the guilt and stand strong, Virgo."
Also, she says that single parents should absolutely accept extra support if offered, especially around July 22.
Additionally, your little one should be encouraged to take on an activity they show talent in, offering you an opportunity to watch your child flourish.
Libra: Sept. 23 – Oct. 22
Playtime at the park can lead to some unhappy conflicts, notes Weber. "Mars retrograde throws you into awkward playground politics," she shares. "Try to remain objective, even if you want to jump to the defense of your own child. It’s not worth alienating teachers or other parents who can see the situation more clearly than you realize. You may unintentionally aggravate the situation rather than resolving what began as a trivial matter in the first place."
Also, she says that this is a great time to reconnect with long-lost family members. A casual gathering should do the trick, but she warns that there may be a bit of conflict, so stay out of the line of fire if possible.
Scorpio: Oct. 23 – Nov. 21
Support abounds in July, Scorpio! "They say it takes a village to raise a child, and with Jupiter’s magnanimous presence in your sign, you attract ample support in July," says Weber. She says a special aunt, cousin or neighbor may visit as well.
Also, it's important to include grandparents in your plans this July. "Create space in your busy schedule for grandparents and avoid misinterpreting their well-intended advice as interference," she recommends. "Saturn asks you to acknowledge their wisdom by practicing patience and gratitude."
She also says an escape to nature can clear your head and restore family harmony if arguments break out, so head to the zoo, the park or outdoors to your vegetable garden if chaos threatens to break out.
Sagittarius: Nov. 22 – Dec. 21
"Jupiter is gracing your zone of rejuvenation and relaxation, which is great news for Saggie parents!" says Weber. This means you'll benefit even more from me time this month. She says some meditation, yoga or a walk in nature will return you to your family with a little more pep. "In fact, anything that reinstates your sense of calm has been preapproved by the universe, so go for it," she says.
Capricorn: Dec. 22 – Jan. 19
"July’s stellar planetary lineup involving Neptune, the sun and Jupiter, invites you to experience wanderlust with your loved ones," shares Weber. This means going on vacation is next on your to-do list. If you don't already have travel plans, hop online and research an itinerary for future travel. "Dream of distant lands and foreign cultures, as these experiences are the best education you can give to your children," she says.
She also says that family tension can rack up in July, so try a new sport or exercise regularly to dispel some of that stress.
Aquarius: Jan. 20 – Feb. 18
"This month’s total lunar eclipse on July 28 breaks old traditions while introducing a new phase into your family’s routine," says Weber. "You may decide to cut down on junk food and insist on healthy snacks from now on, or perhaps you put your foot down by restricting technology usage."
No matter what your goals are, get your whole family involved to amp up teamwork, and get kids involved in regular chores to burn off some of their excess energy.
She also says it's a good idea to do some volunteer work this month — you'll not only participate in your community more, but it can lead to valuable connections and networking.
Pisces: Feb. 19 – March 20
Weber says firm decisions or moving forward with new projects might be best put on hold until August, Pisces parents. "The same goes for a problem or concern involving a child," she explains. "Don’t waste your energy worrying, as you may find that facts received at the time turn out to be incorrect and an unforeseen resolution presents itself at a later stage."
Pisces children will be social butterflies this month, so be prepared for lots of social invitations this month (and restock your gift closet just in case there are a few birthday parties to attend).
