15 Dog breeds that make great hunters

It’s always huntin’ season somewhere in the U.S. You may not be able to get your bestie out of bed at 4 a.m. to join you, but these faithful pooches wanna be where the action is!

1. Brittany

Adorable, loyal, affectionate, spirited — and did we say adorable? The Brittany is smaller and lower to the ground than most other pointing breeds. They also maneuver deftly through brush and trees. We’re pretty sure the Brittany was the inspiration for the Porsche Cayman.

2. Vizsla

One of the more easily trained bird dogs, the Vizsla is a powerhouse in the field, but when they get home, they know that all work and no play makes Vizsla a dull pup!

3. German Wire-haired Pointer

Looking for a loyal pooch that works as hard as you do? The German Wire-haired Pointer is driven by the hunt with a penchant for tracking.

4. Deutsch Drahthaar

The second German canine to make our list, the Deutsch Drahthaar (don’t hurt yourself trying to pronounce it) are more than just versatile game dogs (they can help you bag everything from birds to wild boar). Aside from being able to track using their incredible sniffers through land and water, they’re protective of their humans, too.

5. Labrador Retriever

Labs are water dogs, making them the go-to pooch for duck and goose hunting.
