Raccoon gives train commuters something to smile about during morning rush

Waking up and going to work can be taxing, and the constant drone of the corporate world and sleepy-eyed commuters can get monotonous — that’s why it’s great when there’s a change of pace.

And this adorable raccoon certainly added something different to Toronto Transit Commission’s commuters Tuesday morning. Much to the surprise of the city’s morning commuters, a raccoon found its way not only onto the platform of the Spadina station, but also onto the train.

According to CP24, the raccoon was spotted at the station at around 8 a.m. and his presence caused a “brief commotion” as one woman jumped onto her chair in fright at the sighting. However, most passengers appeared excited by the visit and took to Twitter to happily tweet about their sightings.

Does this sort of thing happen anywhere else in the world?

And do raccoons travel for free?

It’s unclear how the raccoon got into the station, but he was not worried about commuters and eagerly approached them in search of a delicious treat — even rummaging through purses.

“We have no idea how it got on the train. TTC facilities are fenced and secure against human intrusion, but animals do sometime make their way onto TTC property,” Toronto Transit Commission spokesman Brad Ross told the outlet.

But it’s not just the passengers who are tweeting about the raccoon, because someone has even created a Twitter page for the animal @TTCRaccoon pretending to him. We think it’s safe to say that the subway raccoon has created quite a bit of excitement for today.
