With so many fun and feminine trends available for girls’ clothes, we asked some fashion experts to help us hone in on the crème de la crème. Right now, it’s all about the details. From ruffled skirts to shirring and shaped waists, girl power reigns supreme this fall. Read on to find out which five trends your fashionista may be sporting this season!
Sweater dresses & leggings
This is one of the hottest looks of the season! Not only is it adorable, but it’s comfortable and practical, too. There’s no “right” way to style this trend. Try pairing a colorful, striped sweater dress with lace-trimmed leggings for a unique, yet feminine look. Style expert and author Jené Luciana recommends gals in middle school express their individuality by mixing a funky printed legging under a basic knit dress. And don’t forget about the jegging — a hybrid of denim and leggings — which is a must-have this fall. Pair your sweater dress and leggings combo with a ballet flat or fringed boot to complete the look.
Graphic tees & sweaters
Graphic tees are popular right now for both genders. Not surprising, considering they’re comfy, and a perfect way to express a teen or tween’s personality. Choose from funny phrases, symbols or funky designs. When the temperature drops, opt for a graphic sweater instead. Bonus: Some even have hoodies!
Old school
Don’t be surprised to see girl’s clothing with peace signs or other blasts from the past this fall. What’s old is definitely new and trendy again! According to Jessica Wiswall, president and CEO of My Vintage Baby, Inc., vintage fabrics are definitely hot this season. Why? Most moms can’t turn down clothing that reminds them of their own childhoods. That’s why designers are taking a trip down memory lane to resurrect vintage looks this fall.
Mix ‘n match
To help your child transition from summer to fall, build her wardrobe around key layering pieces so you can easily mix and match new outfits. Luciana suggests investing in tunics with feminine details such as ruffles, along with leggings, cardigans, skinny jeans and ballet flats. You simply can’t go wrong with feminine classics, no matter how you wear them!
Rock star
When your fashion plate is ready to take a walk on the wild side, help her dress the part. Luciana recommends a funky pairing of a rough and tough leather moto jacket with feminine flats. Don’t forget leopard and animal prints, too; Wiswall says they’re already on her hot list.
