Chrissy Teigen
Christine Diane "Chrissy" Teigen was born on November 30, 1985 in Delta, Utah, to Vilailuck "Pepper" Teigen and Ron Teigen. She has one sister, Tina Teigen. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Snohomish, Washington, where her parents ran a tavern. They lived in Washington until Teigen was 15 years old, at which point they relocated to Huntington Beach, California; Teigen's mother had gone back to Thailand, while Teigen remained behind in the United States with her father. It was in Huntington Beach where Teigen was first discovered, while working in a surf shop, and her first modeling job was a campaign for Australian surf apparel company Billabong. As her modeling career began to take off, Teigen relocated to Miami, Florida for a substantial part of the year.
During the first season of the hit game show Deal or No Deal, Teigen worked as one of the briefcase models. In 2010, she was named the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue's "Rookie of the Year." The following year, she made her debut on The Cooking Channel with a special called Cookies and Cocktails. In 2013, Teigen hosted the VH1 series Model Employee. She also filmed a second special for The Cooking Channel, Chrissy Teigen's Hungry, which gave viewers a look at the menu tasting for her upcoming wedding to singer John Legend, whom she had met in 2006 while playing his love interest in the video for his song "Stereo." The couple dated for four years before tying the knot, which they formally celebrated in Como, Italy in September 2013. The next month, she appeared (along with footage from their wedding) in the video for Legend's hit song "All of Me," which was dedicated to Chrissy Teigen.
The next few years were big ones for Teigen — both personally and professionally. In 2014, she appeared on the 50th anniversary cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue; in 2015 she cohosted the Billboard Music Awards with rapper Ludacris and was also cohost of the musical competition show Lip Sync Battle alongside rapper LL Cool J. From 2015-2016, Teigen worked as a panelist (and a food stylist!) on Tyra Banks' daytime show FABLife, and in early 2016, she published her first cookbook: Cravings: Recipes for All of the Food You Want to Eat. It went on to become a New York Times bestseller. In 2018, she simultaneously released a cookware line at Target and her second cookbook, Cravings: Hungry For More. By 2019, she'd made Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2021, her third cookbook, Cravings: All Together: Recipes to Love: A Cookbook, was released.
Teigen's personal life was undergoing major changes, too. She and Legend welcomed their first child, daughter Luna Simone, in April 2016, followed almost exactly two years later by their son Miles Theodore in May 2018. Both children were conceived via IVF. The couple were expecting their third child in 2020, son Jack, but the pregnancy sadly ended at 20 weeks in a devastating loss. In 2023, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend welcomed double babies into their household — but not twins! Teigen gave birth to daughter Esti Maxine in January of that year (also conceived via in vitro fertilization), and they also welcomed son Wren Alexander via surrogate. Teigen explained in an Instagram post about how they had chosen a surrogate, but also decided to try one more round of IVF, and both were successful. She frequently gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the family's home life on her Instagram, and is praised for always keeping it real.
