Costco
Costco is a membership-based wholesale retailer known for offering a wide range of products, including groceries, electronics, and household items, in bulk quantities at competitive prices. Costco was founded in 1976 by James Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman, who opened the first store under the name "Costco" in San Diego, California, in 1983.
As of early 2024, Costco operates approximately 1,380 stores worldwide. This number includes locations in various countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and others. The number of stores may fluctuate slightly as new locations open and others close, but this figure provides a general sense of Costco's global presence.
Costco also famously has a food court featuring various items including the popular $1.50 hot dog and soda combo. Costco’s private-label brand, Kirkland Signature, is highly successful. It often receives praise for high quality and competitive pricing. In fact, Kirkland products account for a significant portion of Costco's sales.
Currently, a Goldstar Costco Membership costs $60 per year but will increase to $65 in 2025. An Executive Membership costs $120 and will increase to $130 per year.
