Treat your skin to a mid-winter fixer

It’s hard not to feel a little bit down at this time of year and nothing affects your skin like the cold weather. But fear not, we have a few handy tips that will make you feel fresh and rejuvenated in no time. And the best bit? Some won’t even cost you a penny!

Give yourself a deep body moisturise

Wearing heavy clothes and harsh cold weather takes its toll on your skin so it is important to indulge yourself now and again. If you don’t have time to get down to a spa, pat down your skin with a towel after a warm shower and apply a rich layer of moisturiser or body butter. Your skin will absorb the product faster when it’s been softened by warm water you will be silky, smooth in no time.

A two-minute facial massage

The cold temperatures can result in poor blood circulation which is bad news for your skin. Without enough nutrients and oxygen the regenerative process of your skin will slow down and you will loose your healthy colour and look dull and pale. Combat this with a facial massage that will give an instant bloom to your face. Start by pinching your skin lightly on the forehead, using your finger and thumb, and then move gently along the eyebrows, cheeks and jaw line and down to the neck. Next massage a simple moisturiser into the skin starting again at your forehead and working down to the neck for quick fix that will leave you feeling great!

Home-made skin treatments

You don’t have to break the bank to indulge your body with the best skin products – you can make them yourself! Avocado is packed full of vitamins and essential fatty acids that smooth and soften the skin and when added to honey for extra moisture it is the perfect remedy to a tiring week. Leave the mask for twenty minutes before washing it off and moisturising. To make it even more relaxing take a long hot soak in the bath while you are waiting – the heat will help open up your pores as well!

Brush away those cobwebs

Your skin always needs a thorough exfoliate and during the winter months it is even more essential. Getting rid of your old dead skin gives you an instant boost and why not use a home-made body scrub? Mix brown sugar with honey and coconut oil and apply to a flannel or cloth. Using a circular motion to buff away the dead skin cells start on your feet, legs and then work up to your back stomach and arms – but avoid the chest!

Get to bed

When it’s cold outside there is nothing better than curling up in bed — and really that is the best thing to do! Sleep is essential to help your body’s immune system and gives your skin time to heal and repair itself naturally. Give yourself a helping hand in the winter months by using an overnight moisturiser that will help repair cells — you are sure to wake up looking bright and feeling fabulous!
