She’s the first trans model to be signed to IMG Worldwide and has become something of a poster girl for “gender-neutral” fashion. 2016 is going to be Hari Nef’s year, and the 23-year-old model, actress and activist has started it off in the perfect way: walking in Gucci’s Milan Fashion Week menswear show — her first major European catwalk appearance. Yes, that’s right: menswear.
It’s a sign of things to come in the fashion industry, as a growing number of designers book models of indeterminate gender.
“Being a woman is an option, being trans is an option, and they’re options that appeal to me. We need to listen to people, not labels, not semantics”, said Nef, who was also featured in a shoot for Swedish retailer & Other Stories, which was entirely put together by transgender creatives.
