The clothes may be the entree of NYFW, but the hair, makeup, and nail looks are definitely the dessert. Chances are, you already have the tools to DIY some of these runway looks just sitting in your bathroom cabinet. Thank us later.
Got a small nail brush or a toothpick? Then this pop of art by essie for Jenny Packham is doable at home.
1. Apply base coat.
2. Paint 2 coats of a sheer pink like essie mademoiselle.
3. Grab your tool and freehand a star in a metallic color — the one pictured is essie good as gold. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
4. Finish with a top coat.
ZOYA for Marissa Web
Miss Pop said the “masculine and feminine” negative space look for Marissa Webb was an attempt to bring the “bold and sexy combination to nail art.” To DIY:
1. Start with 1 coat of ZOYA Naked Manicure Lavender Perfector.
2. Next lay a piece of 1/8-inch-wide tape (vinyl sticker bars were used backstage) centered on the nail about 3/4 of the way down to the cuticle.
3. Then paint 2 coats of Willa, once 1 hand is finished pull the tape off all 5 fingers.
4. Seal the top of the negative space box by swiping Willa straight across the tip of your nail.
5. Finish with ZOYA Naked Manicure Glossy Seal.
essie for Rebecca Minkoff
Can’t wait for sun? These warm tones by Rebecca Minkoff will brighten up any look.
1. Start with your top coat.
2. Apply essie sunshine state of mind from the cuticle to the middle of the nail only.
3. Then, create a straight line by using a cleanup brush dipped in polish remover.
4. Next, apply lounge lover (coming Spring 2016) from the middle of the nail to the free edge.
5. Using high class affair, create a neat arc across the free edge of the nail, connecting the sides of the French tip to the straight line.
6. Finish with top coat.JINsoon for Karen Walker
Karen Walker wasn’t afraid of color on the runway this season. To create this toffee-beige look, Jin Soon Choi started with Power Base strengthening base coat, followed by Dulcet, and finished off with a quick dry top coat.
essie for Jonathan Simkhai
The nail look at Jonathan Simkhai was inspired by the lines on the chunky cable knit sweaters we’ll be seeing this fall. To match your nails to your shirt:
1. Start with a base coat.
2. Apply 2 coats of your favorite soft neutral. essie used light blues and pinks like Find Me an Oasis and Wrap Me Up.
3. Apply 1 coat of Matte About You to mattify your look.
4. With a striping brush dipped in gel.setter top coat, draw a diagonal “S” shapes down the middle section of the nail.
5. Re-dip in your toap coat and draw 2 evenly spaced vertical lines down the nail on either side of your “S” shape.
6. Apply diagonal downward strokes down both outer sections of the nail.
JINsoon for Vera Wang
Worried that Fashion Week nail art is too expensive or painstaking for your DIY lifestyle? Vera Wang’s “natural” nail look simply featured one coat of JINsoon Top Gloss. Throw on your favorite top coat and tell your friends you’re wearing a look straight off the NYFW runways which is, in fact, the truth.

Beige nails ruled the runways this year, but Proenza Schouler elevated the one-size-fits-all color to a deep nude that’s perfect for fall/winter. Apply a base, then 3 coats of All Eyes on Nudes to get the richness of the model’s manis.

Earn some edge with a manicure from essie for Rag & Bone. With a rich green so dark it’s almost black, grab essie Stylenomics to achieve this look.
ZOYA for Rachel Zoe
ZOYA’s Sunshine Outing achieved the classic girly nail look at Rachel Zoe with a little help from the Naked Manicure set.
1. First, prep and shape the nail.
2. Get the nails polish-ready with Naked Base followed by 1 coat of the Naked Manicure Pink Perfector.
3. Apply 2 coats of Riley.
4. Finish with the Naked Manicure Glossy Seal for high-shine.
butter LONDON for TADASHI
The nail look at Tadashi was inspired by the intricate detail work of tattooing and uses our new favorite nail accessory — gold foil. To try at home:
1. First, apply Nail Lacquer in Union JackBlack with a fan brush in a sideswipe motion, like windshield wipers, to create a textured look across entire nail.
2. Shape nails into a round, almost pointy-but not dagger-like-nail.
3. Apply a small amount of glue to the tips of the nail in a random pattern keeping every nail different.
4. Apply gold foil (that you can get at any craft store) on top of the glue with a manicure stick.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 on all nails.
Essie for Wes Gordon
The sparkly nail look by essie at Wes Gordon may look sweet, but it was designed to mimic broken glass. Here’s how to get the shimmer:
1. Start with essie ridge filling base coat.
2. Layer 1 coat of Sand Tropez color.
3. Layer your first coat of sparkle with Hors D‘oeuvres.
4. Finish your shine with Set in Sparkle.
5. Add your favorite top coat.
