We swam right up to Michael Phelps’ new Scottsdale house and got a closer look

Michael Phelps just became the most decorated Olympian of all time. He has a beautiful fiancée, Nicole Johnson, and a new baby boy, Boomer, in addition to a sweet new gig coaching swimming at Arizona State University. So when I heard Phlelps snapped up a $2.5 million house in Paradise Valley — the ritzy enclave of Scottsdale, Arizona — as a fellow Phoenecian, I couldn’t resist doing a cruise-by to check it out.

It’s amazing.

Just to be clear, I don’t make it habit to do a lot of star stalking. But with all the Olympics excitement, I decided to do a drive-by on a Thursday afternoon. For the record, I don’t think anyone is living there now. I was greeted by an army of landscapers keeping the pretty yard in immaculate condition. It was worth the trip.

Built in 2015, the Santa Barbara-style house has everything you could ever want. But besides the beauty of the house itself, you have to understand the neighborhood. PV, as it’s called around here, is all about location. The Phelps house sits on a sleepy street lined with pretty, mostly older custom houses. Some are mid-century gems, others straight ranch-style ramblers. But the neighborhood lies in the shadow of postcard-pretty Camelback Mountain, but also sits right in the middle of the bustling Phoenix metro area, just minutes from everything from Scottsdale shopping and restaurants to Arizona State University’s Tempe campus.

Let’s just put it this way, if you wanted to pick the perfect Phoenix neighborhood, you’d pick this one. It’s not some flashy McMansion, just a gorgeous house in a high-quality hood.

Here you see the front of the house as it is now. The listing images show the awnings are new, and my mom, who was in the car with me on the real-estate recon mission, said she saw a fence around the pool through an open gate, which is probs to keep Boomer safe.

Let’s take a look!
