Ellen DeGeneres is known for her humor and generosity, but it turns out she’s also got an eye for lucrative real estate. The talk show host is selling her Santa Barbara estate, and she’s making a pretty penny on it — currently listed for $45 million, the property originally cost her $26.5 million in 2012. Seems like she should join former Full House star Lori Loughlin in starting an HGTV house-flipping show (we’d watch!). But for now, at least you can drool over the photos of DeGeneres’ house ahead.
Ellen’s estate
The 10,000-square-foot home was built in 1930 on 17 acres of land with epic views of the Pacific and the surrounding mountains. Its facade (which evokes Tuscan villa vibes) is flanked by towering olive trees, 18th-century Spanish gates and fountains.
Pool area
The Roman-style pool looks veeery inviting, especially during summer droughts. We wouldn’t say no to lounging on that sprawling patio, cocktail in hand.
Terrace and landscaping
“The house truly feels like it was built out of the landscape, rather than plopped on a plot,” DeGeneres told Sotheby’s. “It feels ancient, like it’s been there forever. Like that hill was never without the house. This is a home that honors nature, and I love that.”
Living area
Inside, the estate boasts cozy living areas (give us a book and we’d stay in this one for hours), six bedrooms, nine fireplaces, a media room, six bathrooms and several dining areas and libraries.
Art and outdoor area
“If you think of your home as a canvas — regardless of its style of architecture — you can put anything on it,” DeGeneres said of her remodeling process. “I tend to keep painting the painting until it’s so done, there’s nothing left to do.”
Al fresco dining area
California homes and restaurants often have to-die-for al fresco dining areas, but this one beats them all. Check out those olive trees and the unfinished wood outdoor dining table — takes the average barbecue up a notch, for sure.
