We get it. There’s not always time to primp and pamper yourself after a hard workout. A body shower? Maybe. But sometimes, the task of washing your hair, let alone styling it, is just not in the cards.
The best part is that even if you decide to skip the showers and embrace your sweaty self for a while longer, the right hairstyle can keep that a secret. (How you smell, on the other hand — that’s on you.) Thankfully, some talented lady bloggers have nailed the whole post-gym hairstyle thing whether they realized it or not. After all, we do live in the age of athleisure, and if it’s socially acceptable to wear gym clothes all day, we should be able to rock our post-gym hair all day.

Check out these sneaky hairstyles featuring braids, ponytails and more that will work wonders at hiding your wet post-workout hair.
Half-up topknot
It doesn’t get any simpler than a quick top knot. Just sweep those wispy hairs around your face (you know the ones) into a quick, high top knot. Seattle blogger Tanya at Little Lady has the full demo.
After you secure the top knot, leave the rest down, brush it and spray with your favorite styling spray before letting your hair air dry.
Headband all the way
The headband look — it’s the hairstyle for the gal who doesn’t want to style her hair at all.
When in doubt, pull everything into a little ponytail or small bun and add a thick headband to cover up what you don’t want the world to see. Kilee of One Little Momma shows off her cute look.
Braided ponytail
Got braid game? Christina, the hairstyle expert of Hair Romance, demonstrates how a quick side braid into a ponytail can work wonders.
Keep a sea salt spray in your gym bag to help style your damp ponytail. Don’t worry too much about making it look perfect. The braid will do most of the talking, and messy is what you’re aiming for with this look.
Mohawk ponytail
This ponytail courtesy of Tina Lee at Makeup Wearables puts a whole new spin on the mohawk. It’s a perfect post-gym pony if you want an edgier style for the day ahead.
Start with a loose braid along your middle part at your hairline and work your way back. Tie it off (but not too tight on wet hair) once you get to the back of your head. Then, add it to the rest of your hair and pull everything into a big pony. Scrunch and go.
Literal knot bun
There’s top knots, and then there’s literal knotted hairstyles, like this one from hairstylist and blogger AJ Palace.
Whether you shower or just rock your sweaty strands, comb your hair for a reset. Separate your hair into two sections and knot them like you would a string. For longer hair, knot twice. I like to call the next step “tuck and tie.” Finish by using bobby pins to secure the flyaways.
Twisted side braids
This hairstyle only looks complicated. It’s actually pretty simple. Look closely, and you’ll see that it’s really just a couple of loose braids (it’s OK — they can look a little messy) with the ends twisted and pinned up.
You’ll look like you put in a lot of effort after just five minutes of work. See the full tutorial from Abby Smith of Twist Me Pretty.
Boxer braids
You’ve probably noticed a trend here. Braids are kinda the queen of all hairstyles when it comes to wet hair (or hiding sweaty post-gym hair). Popular blogger Missy Sue shows another braid trend you can keep in your back pocket.
As a bonus step, you can also twist the braids into small buns or wrap and pin them to form a braided crown. Don’t be afraid to give it your own spin.
Double French braids
We can’t forget about pigtails. This style from Missy Sue combines the power of French braids and messy pigtails for a look that can help you easily transition from your workout to your workday or weekend festivities. After braiding, just spray and scrunch the pigtails with a texture spray of your choice.
Triple buns
Christina from Hair Romance has a bun hairstyle to break up the braid trend a bit. Working with wet hair, she twists three sections of hair into three low buns.
It’s perfect when you want to slick your hair away from face, twist and go. You may even end up with some killer beachy waves after it dries and it’s time to let your hair down. (P.S. She has six more hairstyles for wet hair where that came from.)
Single side braid
If braiding isn’t exactly your best skill, this simple twist hairstyle from Abby Smith of Twist Me Pretty will have the same effect. (Admit it, you thought it was a braid at first.) One again, just keep your favorite sea salt spray or texture spray in your gym bag. Spray and scrunch whatever hair you leave down to achieve an intentionally messy look.
Tucked braid
Here’s one more braid hairstyle, but this one is easy, we promise. By creating a classic thick braid and then tucking it halfway under, you can actually create a pretty sleek and professional-looking updo for the office. This look also comes to you courtesy of Christina from Hair Romance, who has the whole wet hairstyle thing down pat.
