Breaking up isn’t easy. Just ask Jason Derulo, who got to the heart of why he and Jordin Sparks split last week.
On Monday, the “Talk Dirty” singer chatted on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, about their three-year relationship and why it ended.
Did Jordin Sparks’ tweet hint to her Jason Derulo breakup?
He said, “I’m not one to throw my business out on the street, but I thought it was important because things are getting a little out of hand. What happened… in a nutshell, there was a lot of tension in the relationship for a lot of different reasons… there was a lot of pressures of marriage. There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad times, it’s time to call it quits. It becomes something that is unhealthy.”
He admitted that Sparks really wanted to walk down the aisle, but other sources were adding to the marriage commitment.
“To be fair, it was not just from her, either,” Derulo explained. “It was kind of from everybody. That’s not the sole reason, but it definitely played a part.”
Those forces led to the former American Idol winner feeling stuck in an unsatisfactory place in her life and it created tension between the couple.
“We think it may have weighed on her more than it weighed on me. Yeah, she got frustrated a lot. She was in that frustrated space a lot and I think part of that was part of my problem,” he said.
Jason Derulo talks about making mistakes 5 days before Jordin Sparks split
The duo began dating in 2011 and they were very supportive of each other’s careers. They would often show up at events together, even if only one of them was performing. While the couple has ended things, Derulo isn’t one of those celebrities touting that they are the best of friends.
For now, things are a little tense.
“I wouldn’t say good terms,” Derulo said. “I’ll be lying if I said that, but it’s not a bad situation. There’s no bad blood. We didn’t end off on a weird way or a negative way. It’s not like we’re hitting each other up, like, ‘Hey, what are you doing today?'”
Breaking up is indeed hard to do.
