In the past year, Shia LaBeouf‘s behavior has been extremely bizarre.
Some of his more memorable antics include attending a premiere with a brown paper bag on his head that read, “I am not famous anymore,” being arrested for disorderly conduct after interrupting a Broadway production of Cabaret and fighting a homeless man in Times Square, New York City, New York.
The thing is, LaBeouf has now realized his mistakes, and he’s seeking treatment and forgiveness to get his life back on track. The Fury actor appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday to explain his past behavior, but without making excuses for it.
Deranged stalker makes Shia LaBeouf fear for his life
“You’ve had quite an interesting life in the last year or so,” DeGeneres said. “I really don’t pay attention to stuff, but uh, what happened?”
To which LaBeouf responded, “Man, I went through like an existential crisis, which turned into kind of like, a, exploration. I had some hiccups, some judgment errors.”
LaBeouf went on to explain that he initially got into the industry to fill a void.
“I got into this industry because I had this void. I’m a kid of abandonment, so I thought being good at being an actor would somehow fill that void… and so I think people just really want to make a mark,” the Nymphomaniac actor said of the online hate and criticism he faced last year. “So, people who are online making the comments really just want to make a mark. They want to have an effect. So, I think we suffer from the same thing, which is just a lack of attention and love.”

But what scared LaBeouf the most about his erratic behavior?
“Jail. Jail was quite scary,” he explained. “I was there for… it felt like forever,” he added. “I think 24 hours, 25 hours.”
“That’s long enough to know you don’t want to be in jail,” DeGeneres said. “Was that your first time?”
“Uh, no. But this is the worst time,” LaBeouf said, referring to the events that took place in June after his arrest at a Cabaret production. “I really went all the way with it. They put a Hannibal mask on me and a lead jacket. It was very scary.”
“You must have done something very, very bad?” DeGeneres asked.
“I spit on a cop. That’s a no, no,” the actor acknowledged. “I’m sorry if you’re watching, dude. I’m sorry. That was crazy, man.”
Shia LaBeouf admits guilt in disorderly conduct case
However, LaBeouf is now genuinely trying to get his life back on track, and he credits his mother, Shayna Saide, for helping him turn his life around, saying she had told him to “stop f***ing around.”
“It’s been a process. You know, I am quite stubborn, an only child. It’s just me and her, so she was mom and dad. We’ve had it all.”
“Now I am on the right path. Thank you, Mom.”
Here’s hoping that LaBeouf can get his life back on track. Now, if only Amanda Bynes would take note!
