Charlie Hunnam will forever be known as that guy who was almost Christian Grey. But for the Sons of Anarchy actor, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I was going to finish playing a psychopath who’d just lost his wife, and five days later I’d be on set playing Christian Grey,” Hunnam explained in a new interview with Men’s Health. “I was like, ‘This is going to be a f***ing disaster.'”
Fifty Shades of Greymight have been a great opportunity, but Hunnam knew that he wasn’t the right person for the role — at least, not at this point in his life. According to People, he explained, “It was the opposite of how I’ve tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework.”
Hunnam’s life is filled with Sons of Anarchy now. And even though that show ends on Dec. 9, it doesn’t mean he is out there looking for a new job. He just signed on as King Arthur in a six-film deal, directed by Guy Ritchie. And if Fifty Shades of Grey fans are upset they won’t be able to see Hunnam’s body in the film, they only have to look as far as the nearest magazine: Hunnam has also signed on as a Calvin Klein model.

For that and for the rest of his career, Hunnam admits he spends some of his free time at the gym.
“I go into the gym and do 75 pull-ups, 75 dips, 150 squats, 150 pushups, and then 20 minutes of ab work,” he explained. “Done. It takes an hour; I’m in and out. I sweat the whole time.”
“I work out more for the mental than the physical aspect. I can get slightly dark when I’m not keeping a routine. It’s all about feeling healthy and energetic.
