The musician was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, which is very treatable according to his doctors, and he will be cancer-free once he is fully recovered, Green Day said. White’s cancer was discovered as he went in for a routine tonsillectomy, the band’s statement read, and they wanted to let his fans know before word spread through the media.
“Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery,” the band’s statement read. “Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time.”

The talented musician has been with Green Day since the early ’90s, when he first joined Billie Joe Armstrong’s Pinhead Gunpowder side project. White went on to perform live with Green Day in 1999 as their second guitarist, and remained with the band for all the tours that followed.
Eventually, White became the band’s lead guitarist each time they performed live in concert. Then, in 2012, White was officially made a full-time Green Day member and received his first studio album credit along with his bandmates Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.
