Urban was at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Wednesday to debut his new exhibit called “Keith Urban So Far…” which will be open at the museum until May. He revealed during an interview with The Tennessean that his father is only expected to have a few weeks left to live.

“He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that,” Urban explained. “I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days. This has all come at a very strange time, where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time. So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”

The Tennessean described Urban as “raw from the emotion of the day,” and he took time to reflect on some fond memories of his father, particularly memories that made Urban fall in love with country music.

He shared the story of the two of them going to purchase a Don Williams album together and his father’s surety that the music would be good, even though his father didn’t know any of the songs.

“I remember saying to my dad, ‘Oh, what’s the single off this album?'” Urban remembered. “And he said, ‘I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything off it.’ And I said, ‘Well, how do you know it’s going to be good?’ And he said, ‘It’s Don Williams.’ And it hit me in such a way that I thought, ‘Oh, I’d love to make records where people know it’s going to be solid and they go out and get it.’ So I want to thank Dad for starting me on this journey.”

He added, “I feel really blessed and grateful that I’ve been welcomed into the family called country music because that’s what it is, it’s a family. The family is evolving, and all I ever wanted was to make music here…”
