Lily-Rose Depp’s first mag cover criticized for heavy use of makeup (PHOTO)

2016 is officially the year that Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, is stepping out of the shadow of her parents — and she’s ceremoniously doing so with a vibrant new magazine cover.

Depp is the January 2016 cover girl for Love magazine. It’s her first magazine cover ever, though she has been the face of Chanel since July 2015.

With the bright colors and creative makeup, the photo is definitely attention grabbing, which is probably what Depp and the rest of her team are going for. However, not all of the attention being grabbed is positive.

Some social media users have taken to criticizing Depp’s cover for the amount of makeup used. “Geez, why didn’t someone tell me Barnum and Bailey are in town,” one Huffington Postcommenter wrote, while another said, “She looks like one of the girls from Toddlers and Tiaras.”

“She’s so pretty it’s a shame they covered her features,” an Instagram user noted on the Love magazine Instagram post.

On the other hand, the picture is also drawing some positive comments, as well as comparisons between Depp and beloved Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf, played by Leighton Meester.

“Omg, I thought it was Blair from gossip girl [sic],” said an Instagrammer.

We’re seeing it a little in the eyes, but still not totally sure we agree that Depp’s look is close to Meester’s. They are both gorgeous, of course, regardless of whether they look alike or not.

In addition to modeling, Depp also has a bit of acting under her belt. She’s starring in an upcoming Kevin Smith movie, Yoga Hosers, about two teen yoga fanatics who team up with a mercenary to battle a supernatural evil force. The movie also features her dad Johnny Depp, Haley Joel Osment and Natasha Lyonne.

What do you think? Is Depp’s first magazine cover too over the top? Are you getting a total Blair Waldorf vibe?
