The Bachelor‘s Emily Maynard throws shade at the franchise

By now we can all admit that we’re watching The Bachelor more for the train wrecks than the romance. I’m not even a hard-core fan, but I follow enough women on Twitter to know who the jokes of each season are. It sort of makes you wonder whether the people who want to be on this show are actually crazy.

Turns out, I’m not the only one who wonders this. In fact, one of the most popular stars of the show, Emily Maynard, still asks herself who on Earth agrees to be one of the contestants on the show.

“I still look back and think ‘What in the world?’” the reality star says. “And I still watch it, and I think, after all the embarrassing things that happen on this TV show, ‘Who in their right mind would ever agree to do this show, much less twice, like I did?'”

It’s refreshing to see someone from this franchise so self-aware, isn’t it?

Maynard goes on to explain that at that point in her life, she was open to anything that would bring her to the love she wanted. “I thought that I would go on the show and hopefully find the love of my life, and everything would be perfect. I just had such a hole in my heart that I was trying to fill, and I thought maybe that was the answer. Clearly, it wasn’t.”

For those who don’t remember, Brad Womack proposed to her on The Bachelor and when that didn’t work out, Maynard starred on The Bachelorette, where she found love with Jef Holm. Although that relationship didn’t work out, either, Maynard did end up finding true happiness with her now-husband Tyler Johnson. The couple even welcomed their first son, Jennings, last summer.
