Corey Feldman is legitimately hurt over the hateful comments about his band

Update: Sept. 19, 10:32 a.m. PT: Corey Feldman and his Angels have released an absolutely heartbreaking statement about all the hate they’ve received since their Today Show performance.

“We just wanted to tell everybody that, like, it’s been really painful,” Feldman said in a now-deleted Facebook video. “We put ourselves out there, and we did the best that we could. And, like, I’ve never had such mean things said about me. Like, constantly.”

Feldman started sobbing as he added, “All we can say is that we tried really hard. Because we love our fans, and we just wanted to give them the best show that we could. But we don’t deserve… These things that are said about us are awful.”

TBH, though, he probably took things a step too far when he compared the criticism his song has received to racism and body-shaming, saying, “I just want to say that, like, why is it OK to, like, publicly shame us? … I don’t understand… It’s, like, not PC to, like, say somebody is fat or somebody is white or somebody is black or somebody is yellow or green or if they have a short leg or if they have a missing finger. Like, we can’t talk about these things. But it’s OK to bash Corey Feldman and the Angels.”

Still, he makes a seriously good point about bullying in general: “Public shaming should not be accepted, no matter who you are. It doesn’t matter if they’re a celebrity or not. We deserve love, and we deserve, like, normal life… It’s not OK — it’s not acceptable to call us freaks, weirdos, losers, whatever.”

Keep your chin up, Corey. We’re still supporting you and your delightfully weird performance.

Feldman is being pretty universally torn apart for his instantly viral performance with his band, Corey’s Angels. And I don’t get it. Everything about the performance was weird, sure, but it was also quirky in a way that leaves no question that Feldman is doing this stage of his career exactly the way he wants to.

From the Goth/reaper outfit he wore in front of his angel-costume-clad band (complete with halos!) to his hilariously erratic dance moves, Feldman is totally following his passion and living his best life. But the internet, of course, can’t just let that happen.

Hey, guys, maybe you missed this memo, but Corey Feldman is kind of weird. He always has been, unapologetically. His rise to fame came from starring in The Goonies for God’s sake. It’s a weird movie. He’s a weird guy. Can’t you all just let him live? Leave Corey Feldman alone!

I, for one, will be watching that video on repeat all day, giggling at my desk the entire time. All you haters, enjoy your Haterade.
