“Rest in peace, brother. I never knew anyone stronger, or who overcame more,” he wrote.

Update: Sept. 22, 1:30 p.m. PST: According to TMZ, a Connecticut medical examiner has confirmed that Thaddeus Wilk Farrow died of a self-inflicted gunshot. The site says he was found with a gunshot wound in his torso, and his death has been ruled a suicide.

Mia Farrow released a statement on Twitter about her son’s death, writing, “We’re devastated by the loss of Thaddeus, our beloved son and brother. He was a wonderful, courageous person who overcame so much hardship in his short life. We miss him. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and words of kindness.”

The actress has famously adopted 10 children in her lifetime, in addition to having her four biological kids. But the recent death of her adopted son Thaddeus Wilk Farrow makes three of her adopted children who have died at young ages.

The circumstances surrounding 27-year-old Thaddeus’ death are a little strange. He reportedly wasn’t in a car accident but was found on the side of the road “inside his vehicle, suffering from a life-threatening injury,” according to Roxbury, Connecticut police. Thaddeus was taken to a hospital in Danbury, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they haven’t determined how Thaddeus was injured in the car, but they did say there was “no criminal aspect.” Those are the only details they’ve released so far.

Thaddeus, who was paralyzed from childhood polio, was adopted by Farrow from Kolkata, India, in 1994, after she split from husband Woody Allen. Farrow adopted children from all over the world all throughout her life, both while married to Allen and after they split. Many of the children Farrow adopted were ill or disabled.

Tam Farrow, a young girl Farrow adopted from Vietnam, died of heart failure in 2000 at age 19. Tam was blind and had long suffered from a number of health problems. Lark Song Previn, whom Farrow adopted as an infant from Vietnam, died in 2008. Lark’s cause of death has never been publicly released, but she was hospitalized with pneumonia soon before her death, and it was widely speculated that she suffered from AIDS. Thaddeus’ death on Sept. 21 marks the third lost child for Farrow.
