When it comes to pregnancy, it seems like everyone has heard a crazy story about food. From craving pickles and peanut butter (can anyone confirm that this is a thing?) to downing saltines and sparkling water to prevent queasiness, it’s impossible to divorce the importance of food from someone’s pregnancy journey.
That goes for royalty too. The Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton, is currently pregnant with her third child, and as with her previous pregnancies, she’s suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. That’s a severe type of morning sickness, and sadly Kate’s was so bad when she was carrying Prince George that she had to be hospitalized.

Luckily, she’s found one thing that can help ease her symptoms. While attending an awards ceremony, Prince William, in a conversation with 98-year-old Iris Orell, who also suffered from the illness, told her that ginger cookies have occasionally eased Kate’s symptoms. However, not erasing the seriousness of her condition, he emphasized that, “there’s not much ginger can do to stop that.”

For regular morning sickness or stomachaches for those of us who aren’t pregnant, ginger has long been used as a remedy. Sipping ginger tea or sucking a ginger lozenge can help calm your digestive system when things go awry, and though it hasn’t been able to help Kate’s more severe bouts, it seems that ginger cookies are just the ticket when combatting mild nausea.
