6 Quick fixes for dark circles under the eyes

The dreaded panda eyes: Dark rings around your eyes which make you look like you haven’t slept for weeks. Don’t panic, we have the best quick fixes for when you have a panda eye emergency and need to look your very best.

Word on the street is a good night’s sleep will get rid of the big dark circles around your eyes, but generally it’s going to take more than a Sleeping Beauty marathon to erase those bags. Besides, those annoying dark circles can be hereditary, caused by allergies or the result of plain old age. Before you start to fret, we have found some great fixes to help your eyes look as fresh as a daisy.

1

Haemorrhoid cream

Dark circles don’t have to be a pain in the butt. You might think we’re joking, but placing haemorrhoid cream under your eyes can help reduce puffiness and shadows. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Brent Moelleken said he has patients who swear haemorrhoid cream is the answer. However, he suggested using a retinol eye cream instead.

2

Caffeine eye roll-on

Use an eye roller. It’s a nifty little product which looks like a stick of roll-on deodorant but uses caffeine and grape antioxidants with a massaging ball to refresh your eyes in an instant. Regular use can help reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Try Garnier Youthful Radiance Caffeine Eye Roll-On ($19).

3

BB cream eye roll-on

For those of you who haven’t heard of BB cream, you are missing out. It’s the best invention for the girl who is always in a rush. It combines moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation in one easy-to-apply product. However, BB cream just got a whole lot better because the geniuses as Garnier have created BB Cream Eye Roll-On. It has all the the benefits of BB cream, with an active ingredient to instantly make those dark shadows less visible (Priceline, $14).

4

Drink heaps of water

Bet you didn’t know that being dehydrated can cause you to have puffy eyes? Have your water bottle at your side and drink up. Reduce your salt intake because it can cause water retention and increase your water intake and, within two days, you should start to notice a difference.

5

Use concealer

It’s great for hiding a multitude of sins like big volcano-sized pimples, pigmentation, scars, birthmarks and dark circles. You’ll need a shade that’s one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. Dab and blend under your eyes after you’ve gently cleansed and moisturised. Then apply your foundation as you would normally.

Ice ice, baby

Dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman recommends applying ice packs to your eyes for 10 minutes to reduce puffiness. If you don’t have an eye mask you can freeze, try wrapping up ice cubes in a zip lock bag. Alternatively, freezing tablespoons can have the same effect.

If you don’t have the necessary products on hand and you have a real panda eye emergency, you can always opt for wearing sunglasses.
