Try out these green food ideas with your children which use just your basic pantry staples so there is no need to run out for special ingredients.

Green eggs and ham

This would be the traditional favourite for any Dr Seuss lover. Surprise your children with their very own version of green eggs and ham. Whisk the eggs in a small bowl with some milk and just a tiny drop of green food colouring. It may not look all that appetising to the grown-ups, but I guarantee you that the kids will love it!

Decorate your own biscuits

Are you looking for ways to keep your hungry children busy after school? Let their imaginations go wild as they ice and decorate their own biscuits. You will need a plain biscuit to spread with green icing and some sprinkles, hundreds-and-thousands, or small lollies to put on the finishing touches. This is a great activity for a birthday party and is very easy to set up for everyone to enjoy.

Frog in a pond

An oldie but a goodie. Green jelly makes a fantastic-looking swampy pond for your little chocolate frog. There are some beautiful jelly moulds available at most kitchen shops, so you can choose from a variety of shapes. Set the jelly in the fridge overnight and then place the chocolate frog right in the middle. Your children will be happy as a frog in a pond!

Avocado on toast

Of course there is nothing quitle like the simple pleasure of avocado on toast. This makes a perfect lunch for older babies due to the smooth and creamy texture of the avocado. Packed with antioxidants, fibre and vitamins C and E, avocados make a great stand-by meal for those days when you are looking for something that is quick, easy and delicious. Make it a little more enticing with a sandwich cutter and some sprouts for finishing touches.

Salad creations

Mother Nature has provided us with a plentiful supply of green fruits and vegetables that are not only yummy to eat, but also look bright and beautiful. Have some fun with some salads for lunch and see what pictures and shapes you can come up with. When food looks attractive, children are much more inclined to give it a try, so this is a great tool to encourage fussy eaters to be a little more adventurous.

So now there is no excuse not to embrace the colour trend of the year with all things yummy and green. It’s a great excuse to try new foods and have a bit of fun with your meals.
