Western Australia shares the most popular baby names of 2015

You’re not likely to find parents naming their kids “Peanut” or “Apple” in Western Australia. They are a decidedly classy bunch, with their 50 most popular baby names surprisingly regal and traditional in nature.

The annual list released by the Births, Deaths and Marriages register found that names like Oliver, William and Thomas were the most popular for boys this year, while Olivia, Charlotte and Grace were favoured for the girls.

There were a couple of surprise names in amongst the list, though. Jaxon, spelt with an interestingly placed X made number 26, for instance. But the girls’ names were much more traditional with Elizabeth, Abigail and Evelyn making it onto the list.

Attorney General Michael Mischin says that the most popular names parents chose for their children varied from region to region.

“Coming in at number one in the combined Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne regions was a very royal William for boys and Charlotte for girls, while those in the Wheatbelt/Mid-West region favoured Jack and Isabelle,” he said.

The register also revealed that births were down by 260 to 35,335. If you’re looking for some baby name inspiration, take it from parents in Western Australia and take a look at their most popular names for 2015.
