Pregnant Laura Perlongo’s VMA’s look is perfectly timed for GoTopless Day

All eyes were on Laura Perlongo as she rolled into MTV’s 2016 Video Music Awards with her fiancé, Catfish director Nev Schulman, in one of the best pieces of maternity wear we’ve seen yet.

Perlongo wore an open olive green bomber jacket, color-coordinated to match her soon-to-be husband’s button-up shirt, with nothing underneath except cross-the-chest body jewelry. She topped off the look with a ’90s fishtail braid and choker.

This daring look is perfectly timed, considering that today is GoTopless Day. Women across the country have been marching bare-chested, standing up for their right to go topless in public. Nadine Gray, president of GoTopless, explained the movement to ABC News. “This push for women to go topless in the 21st century is as strong as women wanting to vote in the 20th century,” she said. “It may be sensual, but it’s not illegal to be sensual.”

This isn’t the first time Perlongo has shown off her midriff while pregnant — it seems to be one of her favorite looks. She recently posed with her baby bump sticking out of a robe in a photoshoot for Insomniac magazine.

And we’re pretty into this super-low-maintenance bra and overalls look, too.

Perlongo writes very openly about her pregnancy, which she described as happening “accidentally on purpose” in a post on Attn. She spoke candidly about the stress every millennial couple feels when they have to make the decision of whether or not to actually go through with having a baby and the fear of doing it wrong.

“Nev and I certainly have no idea what we’re doing; we just know we’re doing something we want to be doing,” she said. “Hopefully we don’t suck at it or turn into know-it-all zombies. Mainly we’re just really happy and excited.”
