It’s so important to find friends that can relate to our crazy child-filled lives. Here’s how you can find your mom friends and stop feeling so alone.
You wake up one morning and realize that you just seriously need an adult conversation, need to vent a bit and need to know you aren’t (totally) crazy. Do you have people you can call to do those things with?
It’s called a mom-tribe and everyone needs one. Your tribe will not only keep you from the loneliness and isolation that often accompanies motherhood, but will save you from reaching the edge of sanity and pull you back to reality. So the question is: how do you find your tribe?
Hang out where you’d like to hang out
The biggest thing about finding your people is that they will like the same things you like, have similar dreams and goals on their minds, and have a comparable world view and sense of humor to yours. If you’re not a fan of playgroups at the kiddie gyms, don’t go there searching for people like you! If you love natural foods, hang out at the health food store. Remember that being yourself is a must if you’re going to find the right tribe.

Remember social media
The internet is a great place to look for your tribe if you find it hard to get out and about all the time, be it on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus or forums about topics you enjoy. Something about the internet makes us cut through the chit chat and get to know each other on a deeper level, and soon our online friends become almost like family — often without ever having met in person.
Don’t be afraid to keep looking
You have no reason to settle for a tribe that doesn’t meet your needs, so don’t worry if it doesn’t happen right away. They should not be “friends” you feel the need to dress up for or worry about looking super put-together whenever you see them. They should lift you up and make you feel good, not make you feel less-than when you’re with them. Keep looking, because your tribe really is out there!

Follow up!
You might have an amazing time at a moms’ group, but it really doesn’t last if you never see them again. Don’t go into an introvert fit and never call or email anyone ever again when you’re trying to build your tribe. Remember that they are scattered moms too, and might just need the nudge from you to take the friendship to the next level!
