Downtown Huntsville is home to three museums that will take you back in time. Alabama history comes to life in the Alabama Constitution Village, the Historic Huntsville Depot and EarlyWorks Children’s Museum — making up the South’s largest hands-on history museum complex.
Alabama Constitution Village
On July 5, 1819, 44 delegates of the constitutional convention gathered in a vacant cabinet shop to organize Alabama as the nation’s 22nd state. Constitution Village will transport you back nearly two centuries to a living village that captures the history and spirit of 1819 Alabama.
Spinning wheels whir, fresh bread bakes over an open hearth and villagers of days-gone-by go about their daily duties.

Huntsville Historic Depot & Museum
In 1860, the Depot served as the local passenger house and corporate office of the Memphis & Charleston Railroad’s eastern division. History comes alive as Andy, the robotic ticket agent, describes Alabama’s railway history.
The Depot, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was an active passenger station until 1968 and now stands as a historic symbol of Huntsville’s railroad contributions.
