How will Miss Piggy & Kermit’s breakup affect The Muppets moving forward?

After 39 years together, Kermit and Miss Piggy are calling it quits. With their new show, The Muppets, coming this fall, we can only anticipate many tabloid scandals to come.

First it was Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s “conscious uncoupling,” which seemed to pave the way for more celebrities heading to splitsville. This summer alone, we’ve seen Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner break up, along with Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. Now, the latest celebrity couple seeking a divorce lawyer is Miss Piggy and Kermit.

Like most movie stars, Miss Piggy turned to social media to break the news with the following tweet:

So, what does this mean for the new show featuring our beloved Muppets? Clearly, there will be some tension offstage that may transfer to onstage, given Miss Piggy’s enormous ego.

If there’s one thing we know about Miss Piggy and her porcine predilections, it’s that she’s the jealous type and will likely not handle Kermit’s new romance with Denise, a marketing executive from ABC, who’s also a pig.

Miss Piggy recently told an audience at the TCAs, “It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens,” according to TV Line.

Of course, both Kermit and Miss Piggy are industry veterans and no doubt will find a way to work together, but there’s just one question nagging us: Is this simply a publicity stunt?

We think it’s likely just a ruse to get people gossiping in this Real Housewives-obsessed culture. But if it is for real, maybe it indicates that the format of their new show could be more reality based. Perhaps something in the vein of Keeping up with Kermit, or Miss Piggy in the Big City?

Either way, it does set up Miss Piggy as a possible new Bachelorette. Now that’s a show we’d love to see!
