Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux Are Splitting Up

Another Hollywood couple is pulling the plug, and we just can’t with this one. After two years of marriage and seven years together, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are officially splitting up.

Feeling like this?

Yup, us too.

Aniston’s publicist, Stephen Huvane, released a statement confirming the (horrible, terrible, heartbreaking) news to the Associated Press, noting that the decision was “mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year.”

“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly,” the statement reads. “Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”

Again:

Aniston and Theroux are absolutely entitled to their privacy, but ugh, we have so many questions. How did this happen? Why? Is there any chance they might work things out? Naturally, some will say we should have seen this coming. There were plenty of tabloid reports claiming the two were spending time apart, with Theroux living in New York and Aniston remaining in their LA pad. Plus, Aniston celebrated her 49th birthday last Sunday with gal pals Courteney Cox, Andrea Bendewald, Leigh Kilton-Smith and Kristin Hahn — sans Theroux.

But Aniston has long been the subject of unverified, cruel gossip, and there was no compelling reason to take these reports seriously. In fact, just eight days ago, Architectural Digest ran a story in which Aniston offered a tour of her and Theroux’s dreamy California home. In it, she was quoted as saying, “I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there’s nowhere else I want to be.”

Apparently, though, there is somewhere else they both want to be — and it’s not with each other.

Well, we could seriously use a hug. But as we mourn this breakup, let’s all agree to hold off on the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunion speculation for at least a few months, OK?
